Modified Scanning Feature on New Printers

I purchased this printer because I require all of the "All-in-One" functions offered on this model. All of the functions seem to perform as expected except for the scan function.
I frequently scan documents that are a mix of pages that must be fed through the Automatic Document Feeder and pages that must be placed on the flatbed to be scanned. On the printer being replaced (an HP6800a that died after only two years) I was able to mix the document input methods simply by placing the pages in the appropriate input and clicking on the Add Page button on the scan page. The new printer requires me to select the input method (ADF or flatbed) and proceed. It does not give me the option to change input sources within a single scanned document. Once I commit to the ADF or flatbed I am stuck with that method.
The removal of the prior model feature to intermix input sources renders the All-in-One useless for one of the tasks I am required to perform. I will have to pull out the old, failed printer (the scanner still worked fine) and use it for scanning until I can find another product with the required capability to replace the HP8600.
It would be helpful if HP would update the scanner control software to reinstate the mixed input source scanning capability.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Bought three in last few months. Features are outstanding, installation easy, ink use minimal. Very fast printing & scanning. Capabilities of printer/scanner/fax are beyond comprehension for price paid. Software is also outstanding. I would recommend for both personal and business use.

Prints, scans and copies much quicker than or old HP!
Very satisfied!

Print quality is very disappointing

I thought I did enough research to find a good printer but I am rather disappointed with the 8600 we purchased. The features are great, it installed easily and is user friendly but the print quality is poor. I am sad we had to sacrifice quality for features and ease of printing.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Cheap Construction

While the HP Officejet Pro 8600 e-All-in-One Printer prints, copies, and scans in a satisfactory manner, it took less than a week for the printer to break. The paper tray was slightly bumped, and now I have no 'stop.' It broke off!! The papers now come flying out of the printer onto the floor. I thought HP stood for quality, but that certainly wasn't the case with my new 8600.
I would recommend this to a friend!

The speed and quality of printing is good. The only fault I find is the touch pad does not always respond with one touch when confirming a command now and then.

The Office Pro 8600 is a great printer. My only complaint was that the Mac software install was a pain. Still have not gotten the printer on our home wireless network.
