The microwave seems to work fine, but it has had a smell like burnt electronics since we bought it. The smell is less now than it was when purchased about a month ago, but the odor still lingers.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

An electrical odor in new microwaves can be normal because the electronic board is "curing" as the circuit board material is heated for first few uses. Love this microwave!! Old microwave stopped working but I also hated that the door didn’t pop open when you pushed the button!!
