look it, but having a problem with heating

I recently purchased this and am very pleased with it. However recently it has been heating & cooking as it should. I set the temp and the light comes on as it is heating up, but when the light goes out, it quits staying hot. in order to finish frying i must keep increasing the temp to turn the light back on, then when it goes out, same problem. Could this be the controller or the skillet?

OK for the price but not great

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Bought the skillet around 8-10 months ago to replace 16-in (too large for 2 people). My wife & I use it a minimum of 4 times per week as it is an excellent alternative to glass top stove. We only use plastic utensils when cooking and use a sponge & soapy water to clean. Our findings as follows: (1) Burn in of the surface above the elements started occurring within 1 month. Burn in continued to get worse. After 4 months, burn in on duraceramic surface was significantly impacting ability to cook evenly unless constant attention to stirring or moving around contents in the fryer. (2) The burn-in area was significantly more difficult to clean as food burned on and stuck in this area far more than areas outside the burned in ring. Generally had to add soapy water to skillet for cleaning and let soak, sometimes overnight. (3) I did not find the duraceramic to be any more resistant to minor scratches and abrasion than other non-stick electric skillets that we have used (and we have been using these for years). (4) As with other reviews on the plug-in temperature controller, it is inconveniently placed beneath the handle and when inserted the handle partially covers the adjustment dial. The cord is far too short and the right angle orientation of the controller to the power cord is inconvenient. The straight on orientation used in other electric skillets is preferable and provides more flexibility in placement of the skillet when cooking. (5) On a good note, the price of this unit is reasonable if used at the same frequency we use it (approx 4 time per week) and replacement every 3-5 months due to ordinary wear & tear is justified. Not what I would classify as a durable unit but good for the price.

Broken on unboxing

Had this for several months and just now got around to using it. Handle was broken right out of the box. It heats up and cooks ok but the broken handle doesn't speak well of the quality

Great product

Hi, I've owned this skillet for over two years and it works great. You can cook chicken, vegetables or use it to fry french fries, fish, or empanadas. I love it be able to control the temperature of the oil with this. Is it possible to buy a new lid for this skillet? My son broke the lid 2 months ago and I haven't been able to find the part anywhere. Thanks!!

Failing grade

We have had this electric skillet for nearly a year. We keep it in our travel trailer and use it for cooking pancakes and French toast . We have used it maybe 15 times and clean it after every use and at first were happy with it. Now it has developed a dark ring circle where the heating element is and it seems that everything sticks to it. Even though we use a plastic spatula and a soft cloth to clean it, some of the coating is coming off. I doubt the coating is something we want to eat so the skillet is now useless. I am hoping Oster will stand by its product and provide me with a suitable replacement.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

GREAT LITTLE SKILLET!

It is well made and cooks really well. I had an older, rectangular one that was losing g the ceramic surface. Perhaps because it was rectangular ulnar, the heat was concentrated at a couple of points, and foods frequently stuck there. Although I liked having the larger size to use when we had company, this is a great size for us.

Disappointed

Bought to use skillet in my RV. Lightly used, cared for properly. Scorched all along where the heat element is. Everything now sticks where its scorched. All prior Oster products have worked flawlessly, thats why I stuck with Oster. My fault I didnt properly register product. Never thought I would have a issue.
