Had difficulty connecting with internet until I discovered correct procedure
on February 15, 2016

Made several calls to support for help with internet connection via wireless router.
After several trial and error procedures, was told that I needed the latest software version (USB stick was mailed to me).
Went through another round of trial and error procedures.
Automatically generated MAC address, IP address, Subnet Mask, Gateway numbers but DNS Server were zeroes.
Was told to call my router provider -- who couldn't help me because I couldn't remember my password and other changes I made when router was installed.
Then I remembered that in one of my phone calls to Samsung support, I was told to manually input 8888 for the DNS Server .
I wrote down the automatically generated numbers for MAC address, IP address, Subnet Mask, Gateway number and manually inputted them, as well as manually input 8888 for the DNS Server number -- and finally was successful in getting internet connection via wireless router.
Pros: Inexpensive, Lightweight
I would recommend this to a friend!

Abundance of great features for a great price

I found this product to be very easy to use. Just follow the simple step by step instructions displayed during the initial setup process. Simple menus are displayed as well as many built in apps featuring Netflix, YouTube, Vudu, huluPlus and more. The loading speed is pretty efficient as well when it comes down to the initial startup as well as the loading of the discs. All in all, this Blu-ray player is a bargain for everything it has to offer.
Pros: Realistic color, Inexpensive, Lightweight
Cons: no light indicator for power switch
I would recommend this to a friend!

allshare and home network sharing
on November 30, 2016

current brochure on Samsung site indicates : AllShare™ Yes
the manual also describes how dlna is to be used.
both these refer to playing of video, music and photos on the home network devices (computers etc) connected to the same Wi-Fi network on the bluray.
This bluray CANNOT do these contrary to all the info given in various documents (specs, manuals, commercial documents etc.)
IT CAN ONLY PLAY BACK VIDEOS, PHOTOS AND MUSIC FROM A USB STICK INSERTED INTO THE PLAYER (and of course the dvd inserted), AND HAS NO WI-FI CAPABILITY FOR SUCH PLAYBACKS.
therefore, for those who want these functions I would not recommend it, and I think that Samsung needs the correct this situation by providing the required firmware or change their documents to reflect the true capabilities of the device.
Pros: Inexpensive
Cons: Did not meet expectations
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Was great for 2 weeks
on January 14, 2017

This item was really good, for 2 weeks. A few days ago, it began freezing; in between titles on a DVD, or between episodes on NetFlix.
It did not shut down because the TV did not show a "no signal" message. However, the only way to restore functionality was to disconnect the power plug from receptacle and reconnect.
I used it with different TVs and HDMI cables. Same results.
I returned it for exchange today. Will see what happens in the next 15 days.
Pros: Inexpensive, great features
Cons: Poor quality, became defective

BD-J5700 BluRay

These Blu-ray players are not worth buying. I exchange one because it was not working properly and now I have 2 more that are not functioning. They won't play any discs, have to be unplugged and plugged back in at times to get them to power on. One would only open the tray with the remote and not with the button to open the tray. I would not recommend that anyone buy these models. Samsung has great products but they failed miserably to me with these.
Pros: Inexpensive
Cons: Did not meet expectations, not able to play dvd's, have to umplug the player too many times.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
