LG washer prone to failure

Like most of the other reviews, I would have rated these washers highly shortly after the initial purchase. I have the WM2016 model which is similar. It was not too long after we bought it that a mold like smell appeared even though we followed the cleaning instructions. We learned to live with it and to clean/dry the seal.
Now less than five years later, a bad rubber burning smell during the spin cycle due to a defective spider arm allowing the drum to vibrate against the rubber seal. To repair/replace is nearly the cost of a new washer. The spider arm corrodes and deteriorates in bleach/laundry detergent and eventually cracks. Though this is part of the drum assembly which should be under warranty LG will not repair the machine. Though the spider material is clearly not acceptable for the environment it needs to operate and would consider it a manufacturing defect LG still will not cover it.
Look it up, burning rubber smell LG washers.. Check it out and make your own decision.
LG you really hit the jackpot designing this washer. You have thought of everything-right down to the little melody at the end. It is user friendly & gives cleaning options every which way. Laundry is super-clean-using a lot less water and detergent. Never thought at 72 I would love to do laundry--but I confess I do. You have made me a very happy camper. No doubts-buy it & enjoy!!

Washer is the noisiest one we have owned and does not clean the clothes as well as expected. Many washing options but some take a very long time.
Pros: easy to use, Features/Settings

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought the front load washing machine about 3 years ago. After about 2 years, the rubber seal became moldy even though tried to clean it. All of my towels stink and I can't get the order out. Very disappointed.

I've had my washer for approximately a month and I do like how quiet the machine is. However, when the washer adds the water, it fills with short bursts of water that make the water pipes rattle from the pressure. Even after adjusting the water flow amounts on the hoses going into the washer, there still seems to be no change in the banging of the pipes. I am a bit concerned that in my old house, this may lead to future plumbing leaks with the excessive amount of shaking that the pipes endure when the washer adds water to a load of laundry. I am going to look for a plumbing solution to eliminate any future problems of pipes leaking in inappropriate places in my walls etc. I wish that the newer washers that are now specifying the HE detergents would work just as well with the traditional formula laundry detergents so that I am be able to use the rest of the detergent I currently have. My clothes seem to be cleaned nicely with this new machine, but it seems to take a lot longer than my old washer to do a load of laundry. Instead of a buzzer to sound when the washing cycle is done, there are pleasant chimes. Unfortunately they aren't always loud enough to be heard from my basement laundry room when I am on the main level in my home. Overall, I like this machine so far and hope that this continues to be a quality purchase for me.
Pros: Performance, Quality, rebate from energy provider.

Good washer; but built by engineers not home owner

Works well, spins clothes till almost dry; but, water valves slam shut and the shock rattles the pipes. Should have slower closing valves. Also, when the thing spins, it emits a high piched whine (thought I had a jet plane in my basement). Both are engineering issues that could be easily fixed.
Also, you can't to something in the middle of the cycle, like just spin. Instead you have run the whole cycle to just spin some water out of a towel.
Pros: Performance

I love all the settings on this washer and the fact that it fits in a small space but still washes a ton of clothes. We have 3 kids and do a lot if laundry. It is very easy to use. We stacked it in a small apartment and my kids can even use it. It washes very well even with small amount if water it uses. It does shake some on spin cycle. We have had no issues with mold but I wipe out rubber gasket with towel every other time. I love the magnet that keeps the door propped open so it can dry out properly. I would recommend it to anyone who has a small space and needs a stackable.
