Several significant faults
on April 5, 2017

After 10 days of use I am completely dissatisfied.
(This unit was purchased to replace another GE unit that worked fine but had the notoriously well publicized flaking paint in the microwave ceiling interior. GE customer service suggested I replace the unit because the paint was non-toxic but suggest that it not be ingested.)
This new unit has volume control for the tone but its only options are "mute" and "normal". The cooling fan runs way too long and if food is not removed immediately the fan continues until the food is cool. The touch controls will lock for no reason and the unlock feature intermittently will not work and resetting the circuit breaker is the only way to unlock controls when this happens. There are several other problems but these are the most significant.

Poor design compared to a previous model.

Both oven and microwave cook fine. But compared to our 17 year old previous model there are three big differences that, after 10 months, still bother me, so it is not a matter of just getting used to it. 1) The cooking element in the oven is no longer located on the bottom of the oven, but rather BENEATH the bottom of the oven, unseen. It makes for easier cleaning, but longer preheating times. It takes 12 minutes to heat to 350 degrees. 2) The microwave oven door no longer opens to the side, but rather straight out, just like the oven door. This is a HUGE impediment to cleaning the microwave for me. I am 5"2" and have to stand on a footstool to reach the back, awkwardly lowering my head to see what I'm doing. Very much a hassle. I used to clean the old microwave several times a week. Now it just gets filthy and I clean it once a month, which is a shame because the inside is a shiny (when clean) stainless steel-like material that looked beautiful when new, and when clean. This is really ironic because GE made the lower oven easier to clean, but the microwave harder to clean. 3) The controls are what bug me daily. Here are my major complaints. a)There is only ONE express cook button, which is for 30 seconds; the old one had seven - one for each minute up to 6, plus a 30 seconds. Now there is a DIAL involved. If you want to heat something on high for 3 minutes, you need to take the following steps: push "Microwave", push the dial to confirm "Cook by Time" which shows on the display (along with other options), then turn the dial eleven times to go from 15 seconds to 3 minutes (in 15 second intervals). It's PREPOSTEROUS. Sure, you can try to turn the dial fast to 3 minutes, not stopping at each interval, but then you risk going past your intended target and then have to back track. Or you could push "Add 30 seconds" six times. b) There is only one timer; the old one had two. I miss having both when I have something in the oven and also need to time something I'm doing over on the range, like turning chicken cutlets, or timing rice. c) The detested dial is also used to set the timer, and it is set up poorly for me because most of my cooking is for less than an hour. But the way the timer is designed, you need to turn the dial past the hours/minutes choice to get to minutes/seconds. To set the timer for 35 minutes here is the process: push Timer On/Off, then turn the dial to Minutes/Seconds and push the dial, to select that option, turn the dial 35 times (you can turn it quickly and just slow when you get to the 30's) and push to select 35 as the number of minutes, then push to select 0 as the number of seconds. (Why an option for seconds? Is there any home chef who needs to be so precise?) d) The timer and preheat tones are not loud enough. The timer will keep beeping until turned off, but I often miss the preheat notification because it's only once. The volume can not be adjusted - the choice is either on or muted. (Why would you want to mute it?)
Our previous version (model JTP85BA1BB) of this combo unit came with our model home when it was built in 1999. We had the microwave repaired by GE two or three times over the 18 years. But when it failed this time the GE repairman quoted something outlandish because the parts were no longer available. We just went ahead and ordered this newer version, sight unseen from our local appliance store. I wish I had known how inconvenient this new version was, and would have liked to find a carpenter who could do something with my cabinets so we'd not have to buy a combined unit (I also hated having to get rid of a perfectly fine oven, just because the microwave died).

Good, but trouble from the start

The oven was used only one time, then the inside door glass panel shattered.when the oven wasn't even in use. This happened on its own. Didn't have an oven to use for weeks until the replacement glass could be installed under warranty. Had to be a defect during manufacture. Everything else is working fine. I got this to replace an older GE model based upon the same fit in the kitchen cabinet.

GE Wall Oven

Not easy to use . Takes way too long to preheat. Does not let you know when oven is preheated. Replacing existing unit, new unit is not satisfactory.

Replacement oven

This was a replacement of another GE product offered by our home owners warranty company. I LOVED my older GE. This one is all right, but I REALLY MISS one of the features my older one had. While the oven does have a delay start feature, my microwave does not. This was a feature I used quite a bit. It also seems to take quite a long time to preheat the oven. It is a very pretty unit.

Hate It!

This is the "new, improved" replacement for our original GE Mic/Oven. The controls are unreadable, the timer cannot be heard, the oven takes 20min to preheat, the microwave door opens like an oven, not lateral, so you have to reach up and over the door to load or unload. GIVE ME BACK THE ORIGINAL!!!!!!!!!
