I got my a5000 as a gift from my Son and Daughter. I have always loved taking pictures but never had a good camera. Even though I am just learning the settings and when to use different settings, I have already taken some breathtaking photos! I am in love with my new camera and can't wait to learn more about it.
I would recommend this to a friend!

If I could write something without any story behind the reasons for buying this, it would be boring for me. This cost less than the point and shoot Sony I got in 2004. both purchased with accessories. This time I got an extra lens also. This camera is the same Size as my old cybershot DSC 100 but is oh so good and fast.
The shutter is quick. lt takes continuous multiple shots, with Bracketing if needed. There are a lot of options. More than some DSLRs. Funny Story, my wife made me return a Sony Camcorder Thanksgiving sales 2013. In reaction I kept my eye on Sony Cameras Thanksgiving 2014 and purchased this. I use a Nikon D90, which is a super amazing camera, but with a zoom lens it gets bulky and heavy, . not really practical (for me) to take to the park with Kids on a regular basis. But the D90, a full DsLR, is way easier to use though.
The alpha 5000 is very compact and has most of The options in my DSLR. And Some other ones. The functions and options are Just insane. Do not get easily intimidated by all the functions. Read the manual it you can online. The help features are very nice. Press the help button to learn more about the function you have selected.
Photos and videos can be taken with a wide array of effects options. Jpeg. RAW, AvCHD, MPEG4. multiple formats supported.
My initial results were not very good. I learnt a bit more and lowered the iso setting. Sometimes I do need to lower the EV value a bit. The camera does have a learning curve. Any option you need to Choose, it has to be through a menu. Some options options can be programmed into the few buttons on the camera.
There is no viewfinder which in normal for this level of camera and no flash shoe. The menu item locations are not easy to remember and there are A lot of them. But that is part of the fun.
I would Not buy a regular point and shoot any more. Spend little extra and get into the world of mirrorless cameras. It takes reasonably good movies also and excellent photoS, however the user must be a bit more knowledgeable about photography and Camera features. For beginners intelligent Auto modes can be good.
After using a simple Pentax camera for well over a year I finall decided to upgrade to an a5000 after tons of recommendations from friends. Definitely see myself jumping to the 6000 or 6100 in the future
