Does not work properly with tankless water heater
on April 25, 2013

I was forced to return this washer for a refund because it would not work properly with my high-efficiency tankless water heater. The washer does not so much wash clothes as it does 'play' with them. Instead of simply filling the tub and getting on with washing, it first bounces them around intermittently, while periodically squirting hot water on them a second or two at a time. This happens many, many times in a row at the beginning of the wash cycle. The result is that the water heater is triggered to come on, but then has to shut down immediately because the washer quit drawing hot water. As a result, the washer never gets hot water and the water heater gets excess wear and tear. LG set up an in-warranty service call, but the repair people informed me that this was 'normal' operation. Do not buy a high-efficiency washer like this if you have a tankless water heater without a recirculation system (which would defeat the savings of a tankless heater anyway).
Pros: stainless steel

Very nice washer

Very nice washer with a lot of useful features. If there were many more features you would probably never use them, but this one has features you may actually use. Clothes come out very clean and smelling fresh. Quiet operation as opposed to a top-load agitating machine. I can actually leave the utility room door open while it's running.
A couple of caveats. Make sure the floor you place it on is structurally sound. The speed of the spin cycle will vibrate the floor no matter how well balanced the machine is.
Try to put in clothes that are similar in weight and fabric. For example, don't mix jeans with lighter fabrics. It's hard for the washer to balance the different kinds of material at the rate it spins, and it will vibrate more as a result.
Be sure to tie up any excess water supply hose. The water valve shutting and opening on the washer is frequent and very quick. If the hoses are loose, they will bang against the wall or back of the washer and you'll think it's banging your water pipes when it actually isn't.
Leveling the washer and a solid floor is critical. The ultra-high speed of the spin cycles will cause excessive vibration if these issues aren't addressed.
Overall, great washer. You'll be happy with it if you make sure your installation is correct.

Absolutely LOVE - especially for bulky items!

I would marry this machine if I could! It does everything and perfect for my many rugs, comforters and blankets. I love using the sanitary features for killing bed mites in the bedding. It's quiet, doesn't use much detergent, has a turbo wash and does anything you can imagine. I researched for months - best reliability, features, price, etc. Finally decided it was between Whirlpool or LG. Went to retailer to see units in person and liked LG the best. The opening is large. Recommend you get matching pedastal too! I hate doing laundry but it seems like so much more fun now. Got matching dryer and washer a couple months ago & no problems except one - It won't FOLD the clothes or hang them up.

worth the money

I really did not see why I should replace my 15 year old top loading washer (warranty ran out / hard to find parts). I did not trust the small amount of water used in the new front loaders. I thought more water equals cleaner clothes. I WAS WRONG. The clothes are definitely noticeably cleaner. I am as frugal as they come, having said that I would definitely recommend this washer.

Like so many others, I rely on CR for performance and reliability when buying consumer products, especially major purchases.
So, based on customer reliability experiences and CR test results (and their resultant recommendations), as well as on other research I did, my wife and I chose LG from a short list.
So far, touch wood, we have been extremely satisfied with our purchase. Our washer seems to have been well-engineered, with real thought put into both the big and little stuff. A true joy to use compared to our old machine; quiet and efficient too.
Reliability will, of course, only be revealed with the passage of time, but so far I am very impressed with our washer. The clothes are clean and the cycle time is reasonable.
In my opinion, follow the manual's instructions and do the recommended maintenance (leaving door slightly ajar on the "plunger", wiping down the door seal after every wash, cleaning the pump filter periodically, and running the "tub clean" cycle monthly) and I believe this machine should provide a long and rewarding ownership experience.
Pros: Performance, Style/Design, Quality

I love this washer!!

This washer is has so many great features, my favorite, is the turbo wash, only takes 40 minutes a load! I bought the pair. I really didn't need a new washer, but when I read all the reviews and reports, I knew this is what I have been waiting for. 40 mins. a load instead of 1 hour. I also love the end of cycle tunes....I have read some reveiws about the smell, If you leave the door open to air out, like you should with any front loader you won't have a smell.

Great Washing Machine, some vibrations on Pedestal

Overall, a great washing machine. Only downfall is that we noticed it was vibrating quite a bit on the pedestal. I had to buy anti-vibration pads to make it stop.

The product works

I bought this washer because my mom had one and loved hers. When we first got them delivered I didn't think they would work but after some small remodeling to our laundry room we did get the washer and dryer to fit.
I love that I can wash our California King sized comforter and I no longer have to go to a laundry mat just for that. It's also fast, quiet and the amount of choices for the wash is great.
My only complaint would be that the clothes don't feel as clean, as if they weren't rinsed enough. I discovered the best solution to that was using Downy and hat seemed to solve the issue.
Pros: Style/Design, easy to use
