A great first album by the band that started the progressive/mystic/metal sound. Ritchie's guitar playing stands the test of time, and coupled with Ronnie's soaring vocals, showed that you could have well thought out music and still rock. This and "Rainbow Rising" are must have CDs from this band.

Dio + Blackmore = perfection!

If you are a fan of Blackmore and/or Dio and don't already have this album, buy it now! Basically, the entire album including all the performances on the album are great. This is probably my favorite album of Ritchie Blackmore's, including the many Deep Purple classics. For whatever reason, of Blackmore's entire body of work, I have a preference for the first few Rainbow albums. Something about the songwriting and Dio's voice with Ritchie's playing combine to absolute perfection, in my opinion. Certain songs are ridiculously good: "Man on a Silver Mountain," "Sixteenth Century Greensleeves," "The Temple of the King," etc. However, even on lesser tracks, for myself, Dio and/or Blackmore make them extremely interesting and enjoyable. Of Dio's work, I would probably rate this album neck and neck with Sabbath's "H&H," therefore, it's one of my favorites of his career output as well. I'll leave it at that—all that anyone needs to know is that this album is absolutely awesome and everyone should own it!

Make no mistake........Ritchie Blackmore is one of rocks greatest guitarists, and this album alone amply proves that. My favorite track, Man on the Silver Mountain is the stuff rock dreams are made of, and that's only the beginning, Catch the Rainbow, Black Sheep, and Still I'm Sad round out this package, 9 tracks total, and best of all............ALL KILLER NO FILLER!! They don't make 'em like this anymore, so do your ears a great service, and get this NOW!!
