Great fridge in all aspect except the lighting of the external ice dispenser/control panel. The buttons are not back lit and cannot be seen very well.

Great refrigerator, except the noise

We received this fridge a little over a week ago. Both doors came with minor imperfections (a scratch on one and a bow in the stainless on the other) but GE is replacing them. Otherwise there have been no mechanical issues so far.
Our previous fridge was a 10 year old GE side-by-side. We absolutely love the layout of this new french door model over our old one. It appears to have about the same amount of cubic ft, but all of the space is usable, unlike our previous one where things got lost in back. So I give this a 5-star on layout.
The quality also appears to be good - solid doors, shelves and draws that feel firm - not rickety, good seal around the doors & top doors that can be adjusted up and down in case your floor is not level. So 4-5 stars on quality as well.
My big issue with this fridge is the running noise. What frustrates me is that with all of the technology improvements over the years, I would think that GE could spend some amount of time/effort/money on producing a compressor that is quiet. I understand that modern refrigerators will run 70-90% of the time, and I am perfectly fine with that as long as the running noise is acceptable. But the hum of this one can be heard in every room of our house (one story 2000 sq-ft ranch). It is EASILY twice as loud as the 10 year old GE that we replaced. And the volume modulates as well, sometimes it can almost be acceptable as we are getting used to it, but then the whir ramps up in volume for several minutes. The ice drop, ice refill and water dispenser are also noticeably louder, but this could be because it's an indoor ice maker so more exposed. This is really our only complaint about this product, and it's maddening because we can't return it - so we are stuck with it. My husband has started sleeping with earplugs.
So net-net, if you are not sensitive to noise then I would recommend this product (so far, after one week). If you are sensitive to noise then I would keep looking (although I don't know how you can ever be sure about how loud they will be since they do not have decibel ratings like you do for dishwashers)

French door slate fridge

Love the ate finish. Wish there was a model that had the door in door feature. Other than that is a great refrigerator.

Great Features but Noisy

Love the compartments, french doors, spacious freezer. Compressor is noisy however. Only improvement I'd recommend (other than quieting the compressor) is to separate the bottom deli/meat drawer so both outer drawers don't need to open to access.

Double ice containers and slate color

Replaced other refrigerator two weeks ago. Has an improved freezer ice draw and deli draw in refrigerator section. Would like upper ice/water tray to pull out for larger containers.
