This scanner meets all my scanning needs. My only dissatisfaction has to do with the CD that accompanied it. I have an iMac computer. The CD was for nonApple PCs. Thankfully I was able to figure out how to use the scanner on my own -- which says something about its ease of use. But I didn't have important information that I only discovered on line just now.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Very Good Scanner for Photos and Documents

Epson Perfection V39 scanner is compact and easy to use and set up. The use of a USB connection to power it also adds to the scanners simplicity. I use this to travel with to do scans so all of this is ideal. I am pleased to see that you can adjust the compression settings, as well as storage locations. You put several photos on the glass, it scans them and separates them into separate JPG files, which saves a lot of time. It will auto-remove dust and scratches.
This is an ideal scanner that is easy on the budget. I would highly recommend it.

Buggy software

The machine is nice, but the scanning software crashes frequently, almost always on multiple pages. Tech support never got to the root of it. Returned it and went to a different brand.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I recently bought this scanner. It was in the price range that I wanted to spend and had good recommendations from on-line reviews before I made the purchase. The quality of the scans of my old photos are pretty good, but not great. I'm keeping some of the original printed photos because they look better than the scans.

Quick Way To Create Copies

I was in need of a scanner to make copies of family photos that were being discovered. I needed the speed and quality. I am happy with this scanner, I need to check to see if there is a way to adjust the "copy" area. I am lose part of the photo if I load it against the stops.

I bought this about 6 months ago and it worked great with my 2011 Mac OS10. But now I just bought a 2020 Mac and it told me that the scanner has to be updated. I hope that Epson can do that for me.
