What's great about it: Several future classics, diverse sounds and inspirations.
What's not so great: A tad long-winded, probably could have been condensed.
A word of caution: This album is not for Pretty Hate Machine fans. This is a work of art, not a piece of derivative, superficial pop. For seemingly the first time, Trent Reznor made the album HE wanted to, and not the album that a studio wanted from him. The result is a sweeping double-album that alternates between delicate and rampaging, showing many colors and shades. It drags a bit, and it would have been better minus a song or two, but this is the Dark Side of the Moon of industrial-rock. Use the good headphones for this one.

What's great about it: two discs full of music
Obviously, NIN is very different from most musical groups or individuals. And, its fairly obvious that NIN doesn't fit the norm. With that in mind, this album was one that I found to be very experimental. It was as if Trent was pushing the boundaries of what NIN had been known for. Even though, NIN is my favorite band, I still found this album to be all over the place in sound and style. Yet, that's what makes Mr. Reznor and his band NIN so good. With NIN, you can throw normal out the window, and simply enjoy this album for what it is, which is a collection of great new rock.
As for the tracks, my favorites are Into the Void and We're in this Together.
Definite buy for any NIN fan.

What's great about it: 3 decent tracks
What's not so great: the new sound of NIN
If you love The Downward Spiral, Broken, Pretty Hate Machine, the Quake soundtrack or any CD made before this one then you may be disappointed. This is the beginning of the "new sound" of NIN. They became less and less industrial and I was saddened and I haven't really liked one of their releases since. I've never had a problem with their "softer" side, but almost the entire CD is softer and they should've named it that and warned me that my beloved band was changing.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
