I am sorry that you had this happen to you. I can understand your disappointment.
It is likely that the cartridge was defective and no fixes were possible. Possibly the printer needs to be reset. While it is turned on, unplug it, wait a minute or two and then plug it back in again.
If that revives it, instructions for completing the return and exchange process for the cartridge are at: store.hp.com/us/en/cv/returnsandexchanges
