Great start, right direction, time will tell.

I've certainly had enough of expensive cartridges, so I wanted to give the Eco Tank a try. I also got some ink on me setting the printer up, gloves are a good idea, but also, all part of the fun! Do Yellow first and Black last so you minimize the chance of contaminating the tanks.
For Mac users with Airport base stations having trouble, go into the AirPort Network Options and [x] Enable IGMP Snooping to help with discovery and use of AirPrint.
Plain paper and photo prints look great - not comparable to a 8~12 ink photo printer, but really very good for a straight CMYK printer on Epson photo paper. Printer is fast enough, copy and SD card printing work well. iOS App is good. I'm pretty pleased so far.
Now, in order for this printer to be a winner, only time will tell if:
1) The ink lasts as long as they claim.
2) The ink doesn't dry up.
3) The nozzles don't permanently clog.
4) The genuine ink bottles are available for years to come.
Only time will tell, but I'm more than willing to pay a "premium" on the printer (i.e. the actual cost) and not get gouged on cartridges forever more.

Printer setup was easy, but it is necessary to be very careful filling up the ink wells. Connecting to network was also easy. Once connected, all portable devices recognized it instantly and I could print photos directly from my device. However, it is highly recommended to print from the iprint app as it provides more functionality.

INK LASTS!
on October 12, 2015

Sceptical at the high price tag, but so far this product has proved its worth. For school, I have printed well over 1000 pages (within the first month of purchase) AND I still have plenty ink left in all cartridges--even black! I believe every user will see its worth soon after purchasing and also when FINALLY scoping out the inexpensive ink refills! I am so happy I decided to invest in this printer, instead of absentmindedly purchasing another. Already seeing savings on the ink I would have purchased.
Get with the times and GET THIS PRINTER. You won't regret it.

Be Careful if you have Windows 10

I am writing this for the purpose of informing somebody BEFORE they try and install this. If you have Windows 10, you MUST go to the web site and download your drivers from there. The disc they give you is useless. I tried 3 times to install this printer and it stopped at 22% all 3 times. I went to the site for support and the 1ST thing I saw was, if you have Windows 10 YOU MUST DO THIS!!!! I wish I would have known that prior to installation. Once I found out what to do, it was no problem. Just a LOT of WASTED TIME. They should inform you of this by a sticker on the box or better instruction to the sales people. Other than that, so far so good.

The purchase of this product was a replacement for a Workforce 645, which had been an excellent product. The only problem that I ever had with the Workforce printer was installation of cheap ink (not Epson) Due to the age and cost of the ink cartridges I decided to go with the Expression ET-2550 with the ink tank. So far I have been very pleased, except for the width of the printer with the ink tank. It didn't fit the exact space of the previous printer but this has been resolved with a slight movement of my space. Very easy to install, hookup wireless and AP (printing from Ipad and Iphone) Due to the reduction in the size of the entire printer, I know that some things had to change from the Workforce. The main thing I miss is the size of the LCD display is much smaller. It is still easy to read and the short cuts are a lot easier to use. Overall very satisified

Almost Perfect!

If you're tired of spending more for ink than you did for your printer, this is your machine. The Eco Tank system is a brilliant solution to those expensive little cartridges you hate to throw away but are a pain to recycle.
My only quibble is that the ink filling process could use a little refinement. In its current configuration, you WILL wind up with ink on your fingers and around the openings of the ink reservoir. The manual suggests you wear disposable gloves to keep the ink off your fingers. For less than a nickel, they could, and should, provide you a pair with the product.
Two more small, but significant nits are in the design of the ink filling process itself. Each color ink comes in a small plastic bottle with a sealed top. You snip off the tip, unscrew the top, peel off a foil seal and replace the top. The top has two "wings" to stabilize the bottle as you hold it against the lip of the reservoir. Four wings would give it much more stability. Secondly, nowhere in the instructions do they mention that the ink won't pour into the reservoirs by itself. After holding the first ink bottle upside down for several minutes with no results, I finally squeezed out the ink from the rest of the bottles. This could use some clarification.
Other than that, the setup went quickly and, after a 20-minute pause while the machine primed itself, I easily configured the wi-fi function and printed out my first page, which looks beautiful.
I really like this machine and applaud Epson for a smart, responsible solution which, in the not too distant future, should change the industry's entire approach to consumables.

Loks like a great product

I just completed installation and set up on my PC and two IPADs. It went smoothly but took a little longer than I had anticipated. I have printed a few test pages and a photo and all look great. One negative, i have red fingers from one ink splash. Be careful or wear gloves. The ink supply loks generous.

At last, a CISS for the common person!

A decade or two ago, Epson put itself in the lead by giving us printers that used separate cartridges instead of a single block with 4 or 3 colors. This extended the life of the printer and saved the users a good deal of money. However, the cartridges were still a bit pricey (especially for poor folks like myself); and while rebuilt cartridges were improving, they still could backfire. Continuous Ink Supply Systems (CISS) could be found online; but these were tricky to install and ultimately presented the same problem as rebuilds - the printer ceases to acknowledge the cartridge.
The ET-2550 and its slightly fancier cousin solve the problem by incorporating the CISS into their very design. As with the cartridge-fed units, an on-screen display monitors your ink levels. Simply top off the ink that's running low from a bottle that costs far less than a cartridge. Run the head-cleaning feature from time-to-time, and your printer should be good for many years, at a fraction of the cost.
