I have owned Epson printers dating back to approximately 1993, both for home use and for photography, and would not feel comfortable using any thing else. This is due to the quality of the photo printing, such as color accuracy, realistic colors, crisp edges of text and photo printing, the even saturation of colors, as well as black and white prints. The XP-830 does the same quality of printing that I have come to expect from Epson. Can't say enough about the overall quality of printing with my three Epson printers!!

I am a graphic designer by trade and have been using and purchasing Epson printers since I started college. I love the quality of all of my Epson printers and will more than likely continue to purchase them. Prior to the XP-830 I owned an Epson Stylus Photo RX620. It was a great all-in-one and worked for many years before crapping out. I just received this new printer for Christmas and I'm so excited that I feel like a little kid! I am really loving all of the extra things that this printer has, like the multiple paper trays and ability to print CD/DVD labels right on the disks. The setup of this model was super easy and fast, I think my four year old probably could have done it! I set up the Epson Connect so that I could email pictures directly to the printer to print and it works so seamlessly. I think my only complaint would be that it automatically prints the email info with the names of the attached files, etc before it prints the pictures. Kind of wasteful and annoying if you ask me. Otherwise, I can't wait to discover all of the other cool things this machine has to offer! I LOVE the Epson brand and always tout it to everyone. Yes, the ink can sometimes be a little pricier than other brands, but you get what you pay for people...when the ink is paired with the right paper, you get SHEER ARTISTRY!

I missed a packing material piece which caused a error message. Epsom sent a brand new printer which i have up and running. Epsom support was very helpful with the packing material and support in setting up the printer. Would give them 5 stars.

This is my second Epson Printer. My wife and I lived in our RV for 9-years, traveling all over the USA and a bit of Canada. When I say we have a lot of pictures, it is a gross understatement. We print many of them and demand very high quality. With that as background... The XP-830 first impressed me with it's build quality. It is excellent. Most of the smaller printers we looked at (including several other Epson models) seemed very flimsy. Not the XP-830. Set-up was a breeze, including downloading the software (MS-10 operating system), installing it, and putting the unit on the Wi-Fi network. Print quality is the best we have ever had, and better than what we got from the E-610. Scans look better as well. We are extremely happy with our purchase.

My Epson Expression Premium XP-830.

I can't believe how much this little guy does in such a small footprint. The dual-sided copying and printing was the deciding factor in my purchase. (And I looked at a ton of reviews before buying. I am a Libra.) The printing is fast and clean, and the photos come out looking great. I had an old HP that served me well and long. In fact, what is probably my only complaint about this printer is not the hardware, but the accompanying software, what there is of it. The HP had a program that did EVERYTHING, from checking ink levels to print tests, to scanning and copying options, etc. The software that came with the Epson printer is sorely lacking in functionality. The Epson has a TON of features available on the printer itself. The menus are easy to use. Me, a lazy guy, likes his features on the desktop, so this feature is not as important as it may be to someone else. LOVE the ability to print from anywhere in the universe by forwarding an email directly to the printer. (Do other printers have this? I don't know.) LOVE the ability to PRINT DIECTLY ON printable CD's. Yes, I still do CD's! I am not the iPod type. And consider me a Luddite, but I think iTunes is the poorly designed interface I ever encountered. And I've had PC's since the DOS floppy disk days. LOVE the fact that there are TWO black inks - one for printing text and the other for photos. The only physical problem I have lately is when I try to feed my original into the feeder, and am told I have to put the original on the glass. Huh? I have to check with customer service. Don't know why this stopped working. I made no changes to the printer. In closing, this printer is more than I expected, especially at the price I paid for it. (Shop around, kids!) About the only other complaint I have is that the unit appears to me to be a little "fragile". So I am very careful when pulling out trays and stuff. Oh... one more thing. The price of ink is appalling. But that seems to be a problem across brands.

Initial setup of XP830

Directions on how to load paper are zilch; spent a lot of time just trying to figure out that I had to remove Tray 1 to be able to print with letter size paper from Tray 2. After downloading software to iMac and restarting computer, had to then download a whole new batch of updated software items. Never use Facebook so did not load that particular software to send Facebook pictures to printer, or vice versa?. I initially hooked up printer to router via CAT5e cable and it worked fine. Then downloaded software onto MacBookPro and went through same update hassle. Since I have an iPad, I used the printer screen to set up wifi connection, but left the CAT53 cable in place. Printer now prints via wireless OK, but "Check Network Connection" report said I have "a router/access point channel conflict. Since I do not have any problem printing, I guess I will not have to "improve your wireless network environment". I have absolutely no idea what any of that means. Discovered that after printing, the printer does not actually go to sleep, but keeps having the on/off button light slowly pulse on/off, so I just ended up turning it off so I do not keep hearing it make noises. Already have an older scanner which I will keep using instead of this one. Do not know when I would ever send a FAX. Main reason for getting this printer was my 7.5 year old other brand inkjet printer ink cartridges would dry up in about a month, so just junked it. At least this new XP830 prints fine. As a home user, I could never justify cost of a laser printer since I do not print very often.

Ink Drinker

Unit is small and works reasonably well, however, with that said, it drinks Ink at an alarming rate. The black photo ink is full and it keeps telling you to replace the cartridge. The Black ink cartridge goes through ink very quickly.
We do not print a lot of stuff but every several weeks we have to replace the ink.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I bought this printer about 9 months ago. Today I donated it to Goodwill. It prints ok, but I have never had a printer that used ink as fast as this one. When it thinks it's low on ink everything stops. I can't even scan a document because it demands that I put in a new ink cartridge before I do. I have found no way to over ride this and I have tried everything I know. It SUCKS!
