My daughter has enjoyed and learned a lot with the leapfrog pads. We upgraded her 1 year ago to the platinum and while the features are great the pad did not hold up. Within 3 months of having it she tip of the stylus unraveled and she was not able to use it. I contacted customer care and they did send one to replace it. However they stated it was a one time replacement. Now after only having it 13 months the pad will not turn on. It a bummer considering it right past the warranty.
Pros: Educational, Fun for kids, Good for on-the-go play, Grows with child

Great Idea, So So Product

Let me start off by saying that I absolutely love the idea of the LeapPad. As a homeschooling mom and teacher who has had many different tablets, learning systems, and computers-I found that the LeapPad offers a compilation of great features that could not be found in a another product. We've had android based tablets and popular name-brand tablets; however, I wanted a purely educational system. My kiddos thoroughly love playing the games. They use it to take pictures and make videos, and enjoy earning rewards so they can purchase learning apps. The portability is great- you don't have to worry about it cracking easily if dropped. It also is not an "obsessive technological item"- meaning, that they can use it, have fun with it, and turn it off and walk away when asked. I have found that a lot of kids have a hard time putting tablets away at the end of time-limits- they seem to have an addiction feature built in (I suppose many adults have a difficult time, too). But transitions have been easy with this, even for our special needs child that tends to get "trapped in techno zone". They also promote learning and cooperation between users. My children like to play with each other and talk to each other about what they are doing, compete with each other in similar games and activities, and they get really excited for each other as they complete different goals. It adds to our homeschooling by providing an independent activity that is fun and educational and works across a range of ages- even my 13 year old gets interested in what his younger sibblings are accomplishing. The age range of children who use them on a regular basis are between 3 and 11. Now for the so-so part . . . they don't work all the time. Ours are only 3 months old and from the set-up on day 1, we've had different issues with all 4 that we own (2 LeapPad 3s and 2 LeapPad Platinums). Most issues are easily resolved by trial and error or restarting everything or just trying again and again (as is the case with 1 that struggles to connect to WIFI). It is frustrating to the kids and frustrating to my husband and I who purchased them. Yes, they are "things" and "things" break, but for the price you'd expect to not have issues from the get-go or have to replace one after 3 months. I hope that their tech team addresses this issue because they really are a better option than any of the other tablets out their for kids whose parents want good, safe games and media, without the worry of inappropriate material. I would still recommend because we do really love our LeapPads . . . that is, when they work.
Pros: Educational, Fun for kids, Good for on-the-go play, Grows with child

LeapPad Platinum; An Excellent Learning Resource "

I was recently invited to participate in the review of a new release from LeapFrog; and since I have been able to actually see and measure how my grandsons have benefited from using LeapFrog products, I was happy to take a look at their newest release in exchange for sharing my opinions with you.
My grandsons were at my house Tuesday when the box arrived - much to their immense delight - and due to their parents granting a brief "reprieve" of their grounding from all gaming systems (I won't say what they did, but it did involve an unauthorized use of their mom's phone and the numbers 9, 1 and 1!), I am very happy today to let you know about the new LeapFrog LeapPad Platinum!
LeapFrog LeapPad Platinum From - LeapFrog Ages - 3-9
Favorite Features - Familiar design and use - my grandsons have used LeapPad, LeapPad Ultra and LeapPad 3, so I'm very happy they were able to pick up the LeapPad Platinum and know how to use it. Larger screen More durable design. It looks more durable to me and LeapFrog says they designed it to be more durable. Clearly this is something time will show, but I do believe it will prove to be more durable. Since I have three active grandsons who will play with it; durable is good! The improved graphics are excellent! More detail! More color! Brighter color! More options for game play! The new, "Imagicard" system is excellent! I love how it is easy for children to use the camera in the LeapPad Platinum to take a photo of a special card - included with games and the LeapPad Platinum and then use the info it puts in the LeapPad Platinum to play in new ways! Children can change characters, be able to move in the game in different ways and experience an entirely new aspect to the game they are playing! It is more engaging, more fun and provides more opportunities for children to learn! Children - and grandparents and parents - will love the Imagicard System! Wi-fi and child safe - extremely important to grandparents and parents alike. I know my grandsons have enjoyed the opportunites to go on-line with the LeapPad Ultra and LeapPad 3, so I'm happy to see this feature included in the LeapPad Platinum. Rechargable - I LOVE this! All LeapPad cartridges will work on the LeapPad Platinum! I LOVE this, too! We and my grandson's parents have invested in LeapPad games, so I'm very happy the boys will be able to use these in the LeapPad Platinum. The new features added to the camera will allow my grandsons to "morph" the photos they take . . . I know they will LOVE this! The price point surprised me as I would have guessed it would be priced at a higher point! This is a good buy as children will learn and have fun using the new LeapPad Platinum! LeapFrog says; "Welcome to the next generation of learning with the LeapPad Platinum tablet from LeapFrog, makers of the #1 kids' tablets and the trusted leader in learning for 20 years. It features a 7" hi-res multi-touch capacitive screen and fast processor. Access our learning library of 1,000+ games and more, all designed or approved by LeapFrog educators and featuring 'Just For Me' Learning Technology. Games draw from 10 ways to personalize, from remembering curricular progress - a LeapFrog exclusive - to automatically adjusting learning levels. (Select games only, sold separately.) Take pictures and videos of family or friends with two cameras & video recorders. Connect with a friend on a peer-to-peer enabled LeapPad, and have your pets play together. Unlock more gameplay with 6 bonus LeapFrog Imagicard digital game and interactive cards. Features 8GB memory, front and back cameras & video recorders, music player, enhanced parent controls, kid-safe web browser and more."
One grandson told me he thinks the new LeapPad Platinum is very "cool". What higher praise could there be from a coming-up-on-seven boy?! He loved the new features and the new ways he could play games. Another grandson told me he thinks the new LeapPad Platinum is very "fun"! Again, very high "praise" from an almost-four-year-old! I'm sure they'll have more to say when they are able to play more with it - after they are released from being grounded!
As I have mentioned, I've been able to see how my grandsons have truly benefited educationally from playing with the LeapPads; I look forward to seeing how they learn while playing and having fun with the new LeapPad Platinum. I am very happy with what I see so far in the LeapPad Platinum, so as my grandsons are able to spend more time with it, I'll post again to let you know more about the LeapPad Platinum.

Incredible Advancement in Technology and Education

Incredible upgrades with the Leapfrog LeapPad Platinum. We were sent the LeapFrog Platinum and a set of Imigicards to share our thoughts about its function and upgrades. The LeapPad Platinum has a large 7" inch screen and the screen is shatter-safe. With the way kids throw things around and drop them you know that's a must.
The Platinum's greatest feature is its ability to function with LeapFrog's Imagicards. My 7 yr old was blown away by the animation from still photo to character animation on the screen. We took it to the physical therapy.'s office and he played while I was getting therapy. The therapists and the customers came over to see what he was doing because of all his excitement. Therapists couldn't believe their eyes. "The advancement in technology is incredible" said one of them. With the all new magic gaming with your child's favorite characters imagicards are an incredible technology advancement that kids and parents will love. We had a set of Paw Patrol imagicards as well as a 6 cards that came with the system. My son was loving the Ninja Turtle card that came in the set. He loves the Ninja turtles and has been bugging me to get more cards so he can see them come to life on the screen. The characters come alive right before your eyes and speak to you. The look on my son's face was priceless. He's amazed and surprised all at the same time. The animation isn't all that your child will experience. They'll be able to take photos with their favorite characters and they'll see the character right next to them in the photo. My son loved that. He'd take photo's of everyone in the house and shares them.
LeapFrog Platinum has over 1000+ games, ebooks, video's and more to keep kids engaged and constantly learning. No worry about summer brain drain this year. My son has barely put the LeapFrog Platinum down. The platinum tablet is the one he grabs when his friends come over and he can't wait to show them how the characters come alive from just taking a photo of a Imagicard. They all think its Magic!
I personally love that the content is safe and educational for him and grows with his knowledge. Knowing that LeapFrog is always creating new games and ebooks there's always something new to add to keep him ready and learning and advancing in education.
I love that some of previous games that we have purchased with prior models transfer to the Platinum and there's also new content available for keeping him engaged and continuing to be challenging for him.
Pros: Fun for kids, Grows with child, Good for on-the-go play, Educational

Good Until... videos had cursing in them.

The tablet was great for a year, and I was informed that the videos were appropriate and educational until one day I overheard several bad words coming from the tablet so I took the tablet to see that a video of a women ranting about her opinion on a dairy and meat farms was playing. I was not able to escape from the video so I was forced to shut it down, also commercials play on the tablet that I do not want little ones to see. The games are educational and fun, but the screen often turns black and it can only be played for a little while. This tablet has not went through extreme conditions, and was bought brand new. I would not recommend to a friend.

First, I did receive this product and a set of Imagicards free for review purposes. Second, it's awesome! Love that it's so durable. Love that it's 8g. Love the vast library of learning.
This was so easy to setup and get going. (My 7-year old was playing with it immediately, and figured out the Imagicards without my help.) We can't wait until our neighborhood friends get one, so that he can interact (safely) "socially".

My Kids Love It

We received the LeapPad Platinum & set of Imagicards free in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own. This is the third generation LeapPad that we have owned and they just keep getting better! My kids (ages 4 & 7) have enjoyed hours of fun with the new LeapPad Platinum. They both love the larger 7" screen with much sharper resolution and I love the increased 8GB memory to store all the photos and videos they take. The battery life has been excellent even with heavy use and I love the worry free touch screen. My 4 year old has dropped it a few times already and the worry free screen lives up to its name.
Both my kids have really enjoyed the Imagicard games- PAW Patrol is a favorite in this house- and have played together with no fighting. The PAW Patrol Imagicard game is easy enough for my 4 year old to play but still fun for my 7 year old. I'm glad it came with a tin to keep the cards in so I don't have to search the house for them every time.
One of my favorite features is the kid-safe web browser- LeapSearch. My 7 year old loves the internet and I love knowing when he is searching for sharks that the only kind he's learning about are the ones in the ocean. The parental controls are top-notch and easy to navigate. The LeapPad Platinum is a great choice for parents who have internet savvy young kids!
Pros: Fun for kids, Good for on-the-go play, Educational

Another hit for special needs/autism!

We have been long time fans of LeapFrog products. For the past 15+ years my boys have been playing with them. We've had every handheld and tablet they've made and still have the original Leapster! To say we are fans is an understatement.
My youngest son is 7 and autistic and he has been using the LeapPads as a learning tool for a while. He really responded to the size of the LeapPad Platinum. The images are crisp, the games load fast and he can even still watch some of his favorite shows like Max and Ruby on it.
I love how it is smaller than his other tablets so it can fit right in my purse when we are out and about. He also has finally learned to love wearing headphones so he can listen closely to the instructions on the game without getting frustrated because of outside noise.
The LeapPad Platinum is everything we could have hoped for in an upgrade from previous versions!
Pros: Fun for kids, Grows with child, Good for on-the-go play, Educational
