Nasty smell

Theirs time now using my oven and I am still getting a smell of burning wires-plastic. Dealer coming to check it out next week. I owned 4 previous GE APPLIANCES that we bought 16 years ago but never had issues. Not so lucky this time.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Odors and a small amount of smoke emitting from a new oven is normal. Often the odor will be described as a "burning" or "oily" smell that is more intense when the oven is turned on. This condition is more likely to be noticed when using a new range that has the Self Clean feature as opposed to a model that has a standard oven.
A blanket of fiberglass insulation is used around the oven cavity of GE ranges. An acrylic binder is used to hold the fiberglass insulation blanket together while it is handled during assembly of the range. This binder will decompose at elevated temperatures, resulting in the emission of odor and fumes the first few times the oven is used.
The emissions from GE ranges have been fully disclosed and reviewed at many levels, and we are certain that they do not pose a health hazard to people. However, if you have concerns or questions relating to emission levels contained in the MSDS, you are encouraged to contact your personal physician for clarification on how they may affect you specifically.
Important: The health of some birds is extremely sensitive to the fumes given off during the self-clean cycle of any oven. We recommend birds be moved to another, well ventilated room when self-cleaning the oven.
We recommend running the self-clean cycle for a minimum of 3 hours. The 3 hour self-clean helps dissipate the odor and smoke.

I bought a GE oven similar to this one 20 years ago & wanted a new one. My old one still works perfectly, though. This new one has added features that I love & works perfectly! The bottom drawer is very shallow, but other than that I love everything else! It bakes perfectly. The cook top is easy to keep clean. The self cleaning feature is the best you can
