Goodbye Bose. It's been fun

I recently purchased my 3rd Soundtouch system only to find out Apple Airplay is no longer supported. This is extremely frustrating to find out after I have invested so much money into Bose technology. Not only is it disappointing that Bose chose to downgrade to Bluetooth technology. But they also completely changed technologies (Airplay vs Bluetooth) mid product cycle while maintaining the same device name (Soundtouch). Bluetooth is meant for portable battery operated systems and not home stereo systems. This poor business decision and clever market wording have cost them a long time customer. I not only returned my latest purchase but I have decided to sell off my other Bose products and switch over to a competitor who offers true wireless streaming.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review.

We definitely value your continued loyalty as a Bose customer and appreciate all you have invested into Bose technology. The decision to add bluetooth to our Soundtouch systems allows owners of virtually any mobile device the flexibility to stream any audio source. Bluetooth also allows support for our unique rebroadcasting feature which allows users to stream audio to multiple systems at the same time. Additionally, Bluetooth provides a direct streaming option for SoundTouch home theater systems that were not compatible with AirPlay.

We take pride in constantly improving our products and hopefully this has assisted in better articulating the benefits of adding bluetooth.

Half of a Soundtouch
on October 10, 2015

I already own three Soundtouch Series II products (wave, 20, & 30) and a dozen other Bose products. I just purchased the new Soundtouch 10. The quality of the sound is extraordinary, as I expected it. But the lack of AirPlay is disappointing. Half of my motivation to try and then expand the Soundtouch devices was the ability to integrate with other sound systems with which I use Airport Express or Apple TV. So my new Soundtouch 10 made me only half as happy as the previous systems. I resolved this problem by connecting an Airport Express to my new Soundtouch 10. Without AirPlay support, Soundtouch is not an option any more to expand my sound system, so instead of upgrading my devices I am left only with the choice of retrofitting them with airport express. I really hope Bose brings back AirPlay support, after all, there was no need to choose between AirPlay support and Bluetooth;

Hello Victor,

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. It is always great to hear from a loyal Bose customer. We are glad to hear that you found the sound extraordinary. Using an AirPort Express the way you have is a great idea for adding AirPlay to the new SoundTouch III speakers.

We have found that Bluetooth is a more convenient and versatile technology as it allows you to pair any Bluetooth audio device, not just Apple devices. With Bluetooth rebroadcast, you are able to rebroadcast audio from your connected Bluetooth device through your other SoundTouch speakers, including your Series II devices. In this way, you would be able to expand your system while incorporating the speakers you already have.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I had my bose for 2 years and i love it. I have a 22 pound ion speaker and this speaker blows it out of the water! On a mistake i fonund it in the rain and it was still working!
My only complant is the lcd display is very easy to damage but for about $50-$100 you can get it fixed. DO NOT WASTE ANY MORE TIME AND BUY THIS SPEAKER ITS 100% WORTH IT.

Where is the rewind and fast forward button
on October 11, 2015

I am unable to imagine a audio player without a rewind or fast forward button or even a slider to do that function. Can you please enlighten me if there is a secret to do this?
I am disappointed with this non availability of basic function.

Thanks for posting your review. We always appreciate hearing from our customers. The Bose SoundTouch 20 Series III does not offer a way to move forwards or backwards through the music playing from within the SoundTouch app.

However, if music is being played over the Bluetooth connection, all music control functions of the music source; play, pause, fast forward, rewind, etc would control the audio coming from the SoundTouch 20 Series III.

Nice sound, inconvenient use

Sound is very good for the price but the app's search features are not user friendly. I have a large iTunes library and the only search feature is by Track. Really? You can select Artist but you have to scroll thru all of them. Genre used to sort by Artist now it's by album. We need choices!
Response from bose.comBy RyanBose ServiceOctober 26, 2016
Thank you for your kind words regarding the sound quality that this speaker offers. The search functionality of our SoundTouch app takes into considering the metadata fields for Artist, Album and Track in iTunes and we would like to help you take full advantage of that feature. You can reach our dedicated line for Soundtouch wireless specialists at 800-905-2156 and we’ll be able to take a closer look at this with you.

Connection issues

I chose this as a service award offered by my company. Really enjoy the sound, but... the unit fails to recognize different wifi systems. It is not a 1-2-3 setup like the directions lead you to believe. Every update or moving to a different location, requires a manual setup. The screen on the app flashes past the password for a new system page and goes straight to manual setup. Bad part is it takes forever and rarely works, just reverts back to manual startup page. I don't even bother to take it to a different location.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with our SoundTouch speaker. Congratulations on your service award.

Because our SoundTouch line of products are designed to work over wifi as part of an integrated ecosystem in the home, we agree that these products may not be the best fit for customers looking to take their speaker on the go. For that, we'd recommend checking out our battery-powered SoundLink Bluetooth speakers.

We apologize for any confusion and would like to offer our technical assistance if you have other questions. You can reach us at 1-800-379-2073. We are open from Mon. – Fri., 9 AM – 9 PM EST.
