Seems like ever since I had this phone I've had SIM issues. I've even sent it in and was suppose to have been fixed. It was for awhile then started acting up again and has continuously gotten worse.
Pros: Bright display, Realistic color
Cons: Did not meet expectations, Poor quality
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Upgrade from the Galaxy S4
on February 10, 2017

Since the Note 7 went down in flames, I really needed to get off the Galaxy S4 because you could only install limited apps on that platform before it complained of being out of space. It also ran terribly hot I think due to the constant memory managing it had to do. This also attributed to application/phone hangs.
I biggest complaints:
#1. No user replaceable battery. Standby time is pretty good, but if you have WIFI, Location, and Bluetooth on and try to actually use the phone for games or GPS it can drain the internal battery fairly quickly. If you have access to plug in, then it is less of an issue, but if you don't, you can find yourself in a tough spot without the option to pop in a charged battery.
#2. Phone screen can get burned in areas. I bought mine second hand and this had happened, perhaps to being a demo phone and frequently displacing the same screen. This hopefully Samsung will work to minimize in the future through some safety mechanisms to protect the screen or regularly recondition it.
#3. Also screen related. The auto brightness setting does not always work. It seems to work for a period of time and then stops. Not sure if this is a hardware issue or legitimate issue with programming.
#4. Speaker location is easily covered with fingers in present location when in landscape mode during games.
#5. Still times application or phone will hang. Now I can't remove battery to reset. Not sure what to do with a phone that has the battery sealed. Seems like maybe they put a watchdog process in to detect a hang and reset. Bottom line is the phone is still not 100% fluid 100% of the time. Vast improvement over the S4.
#6. Bloatware. Let me choose what I want on the phone. This may be Verizon's fault also. Users hate bloatware. It really made the S4 a dog when it probably didn't have to be.
Positive qualities of the phone.
#1. S-Pen is nice, but has difficulty reading my wring if I want to convert to text. No easy function to automatically convert from handwriting to text. Would be nice to have a mode that does it automatically.
#2. Fingerprint reader. Great feature! Would be nice if you could save at least 8 prints (I think it only does 4 presently) This allows a husband and wife to easily check one another's phones and covers most common fingers (thumbs and pointers on both hands).
#3. 64GB internal memory supports the installation of many more apps over S4. Bumping internal memory footprint is essential to good phone performance.
#4. Great screen even with the detractors listed above.
#5. Camera function seems better.
Summary:
This is a good phone and would recommend it for anybody looking for a step up waiting for the Note 8. I hope Samsung listens to its customers and makes the Note 8 the best phone on the market. I applaud Samsung for doing the right thing with the Note 7 even if it was very difficult financially. The incident shows the importance of rigorous testing before releasing to the market. Perhaps Samsung should consider some type of beta program with some of its customers. Customers can always break things:-)
I would recommend this to a friend!

My first phablet

I have to say I really like my Note; My only regret was not getting one sooner.
I'm an artist and a doodler, the big screen and a built in stylis and better prosesser were a nice draws for me to get one <that and it came with a GearVR head set>. I don't have to break out my old and slow tablet to draw out ideas.
My only major Con's are the lack of upgradeable storage and it overheats quickly and bogs down when I use it with my GearVR. Depending on the app it has to stop and cool off after 10 min or less. My third Con is the stylis; It came apart after a month or two of use and I was chasing a small spring across the floor and had to glue it back together soon after it snapped in half altogether.
In all great phone, with few technical problems but not killer ones
Pros: Bright display, Built-in speakers, big screen, nice multifuntion and accurate stylis
Cons: no upgradable storage, overheats quicky in the gearvr, frail stylis
I would recommend this to a friend!
