Can't See ???

This is my second GE profile microwave oven. In fact, I have been a fan of GE Profile series appliances for years. This one however is a HUGE disappointment for one reason.... You cannot see your food as it is cooking... I have read one thread attesting to the fact that the glass is tinted and that is why you cannot see your food while it is cooking (yes, the light is on but you still can't see anything, and apparently there is no way to adjust the lighting so you can see the food while it is cooking) This is such a disappointment and what would seem to be a glaring shortcoming, it is hard to believe that GE wasn't aware of it before it was launched....
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Weak Parts

Part # WB34X25642 is a vent grille assembly. The tiny latch for the door accessing the charcoal filter.is so weak it breaks without opening the door. We opened the microwave door and this little door falls open. The assembly was replaced under warranty in 2017 which was within a year of purchase. Now it has broken again. The most outrageous insult is the cost to replace the assembly. The latch cannot be replaced as a separate item. I will not pay for another part that is no better than the last one - the door will be held shut by a small screw.

Purchased this beautiful slate colored microwave along with new range, dishwasher, and refrigerator. Like the chef connect feature and cooking power. Sadly, after 1 year and 7 months of owning it, the most used touch control panel membrane buttons started to fail (start, cancel, numbers) while the not so used buttons still worked. Since it was out of warranty, after considering service call cost plus new touch control panel cost, I decided to cut my losses and buy a new one with a 5-year extended warranty. Since the touch controls are located towards the bottom, this area gets blasted with cooking steam from the range, which may cause heat and moisture build up and causing premature failure.

Steam drips off it...

Purchased and installed in our brand new kitchen along with GE Profile induction cooktop, double oven, dishwasher, and refridgerator. They are beautiful. Look great.
The microwave is not great. Here is why: the vent fan - meant to draw steam and smoke from cooktop surface below (remember, this is an "over the range" microwave) - does not draw the steam up. It is extemely loud and the air blowing out the top is forceful but there IS NO DRAW.
The steam collects and beads all over the outside of the microwave and drips back into the pots below - YUCK! Additionally, the steam beads on our brand new cherry wood cabinets. I have to stand over cooktop and constantly wipe the water and stuff a dry dishtowel between microwave and new cabinets. Makes it a challenge to do other cooking tasks while boiling water.
This cost me a small fortune and it's the only new kitchen i ever got or will have in my life. It make me sad. We can do better America.

not up to my expectations

the power was mentioned by sales was said to be higher that usual, but I'm finding it to be no greater than the one it replaced. My wife has given up on using the "popcorn" button as it leave a lot un-popped. My biggest frustration is with the excessive amount of pressure required to activate the buttons- I would expect much easier and more sensitive control from a "Profile" line appliance

Nice microwave, but you need to turn on light to see any of the features including turning on the microwave light. Even when you open the door, that light does not illuminate the features bar. I will look at that feature next time. It is very annoying. Did not have this problem with older microwave.

We purchased a GE gas range in stainless steel and wanted to update the microwave at the same time. We chose this one not only because it matches so well and is from the Profile Series like the range, but also be cause of the size with the handle not on the front of the microwave. It looks so much bigger than one that has the handle on the front, and at first glance looks like a small oven. It has a Chef Connect feature that allows you to "connect your microwave to a GE range to sync your vent fan, cooktop surface lights and clock via Bluetooth technology" however our range does not have the Chef Connect feature so we cannot comment on this feature as to weather it works or not. The interior is very dark and yes, you cannot "watch" your food cook...this is not a big deal to us, but for some it may be. Numbers 1-5 correspond to a cook time in minutes...this is very cool for all you need to do is press 1 for 1 minute, 2 for 2 minutes etc., and the microwave instantly starts up for that amount of cook time. The pad has a "Add 30 Sec" button that will allow you to add 30 seconds in the middle of cooking and the display will add the 30 seconds to the time remaining and also has a "turntable on/off" button for larger dishes...awesome features! Though it's a bit pricey...the additional features are worth it.
