Wish I had kept our 20 year old coil stovetop!

We bought this product in July 2017. The oven runs at least 50 degrees lower than the display reads. In other words, if you set the oven for 350 degrees, when the display alerts you that the temperature has been reached the temperature is actually only 300 degrees, if your lucky. I tried adjusting the calibration but I just could not get it to set correctly as it only gives me a 35 degree adjustment either way. Also, the front stovetop burners boil things even if you set it at the lowest setting. Same thing happens with my parents stovetop (same model).

Is just OK

Got the oven a little over a month ago. The stove top is hard to keep clean and seems to be distorted around the burners. The control panel extends too far out on the stovetop surface. This forces you to use small pans on the back burners. The oven takes a long time to preheat. The sound level on the timer is too quiet and hard to hear. The clock setup instructions are poor to non-existent. This stove is adequate but wish I would have shopped smarter.

Not really happy with this unit, at all!

First of all, while using any of the stove top burners, at the lowest setting, ( LO ), it is still way to hot, and actually boils water. Impossible to leave cooked food on stove and just keep warm. If you leave your food on at ( LO ) it will burn it up. Found out the hard way. Got all my dishes ready and turned them all on ( LO ), Smelled something burning, came back and my red beans and rice was burnt to the bottom of pan, chili dish was burnt on the bottom and still bubbling, and lastly, my taco meat was burnt on the bottom and still bubbling/boiling. This is a Major Problem.
Second, you cannot change the temperature setting ( raise or lower ) of the oven once you hit the START button. You have to CANCEL, then press BAKE, enter temp. then press START, just to change your temp?
Lastly, takes a long time to PRE HEAT the oven and the Broiling function/operation is poor. Good luck toasting buns or bread.

Easy To Use

Love the fact it's self clean and NOT JUST aqua lift. The aqua lift is fine for a quick clean, but only self clean really works, thats why I went with GE! The knobs are easy to read & i like that it tells you which burner is where! The only thing 2 things I would suggest is that the ceramic top should be black & white dots so you don't ever see scratches...ask any housewife! For all manufacturers... get rid of the glass door oven, no one looks inside when cooking, we open the door! The only thing that glass door does is make us crazy when the steam drips between the glass!!!

Poison auto clean cycle
on January 7, 2017

Perhaps this is a typical issue of new ovens: they are lined with non-stick coating so that when they reach high temperatures they are stinky and create what I experienced as toxic gases.
With normal daily use it is tolerable, however when I first bought it I was under the impression that I should run the self clean cycle before I first baked. I should have evacuated my house. I was asleep and I woke up, with noxious air circulating. I went into the kitchen and turned off the oven, but the air quality was so poor that it burnt my eyes and made me feel ill. I slept that night with my bedroom door shut, the dog and my child both in with me so that they would not be additionally poisoned in another room. The window was open on a chilly fall evening. My house remained stinky for 3 days following, even with all of the windows open and fans running.
Never again will I run the self clean cycle, and in the future I will buy a second hand oven.

Response from geappliances.comBy MICHELLEatGEA GEAJanuary 24, 2017
Hello Toughmama,

This is Michelle with GE Appliances and I want to thank you for taking the time to write this review on model JB700DJWW.

The odor from running a self-clean cycle is most pronounced when it is run for the very first time. As you mentioned, it is strongly recommended to ventilate the kitchen by opening windows and/or turning on any exhaust fan while performing the self-clean function. With continued oven use and each subsequent self-clean cycle, the odor will be significantly reduced.

Thanks again for your feedback.
