My STRDH750 has a very noticeable "Hum"...like a power transformer or similar that is always on even when the power is turned off. Can even hear this from across the room! Also this unit only has two optical inputs..really needs at least four...at least as many as there are component hookups as nowadays most audio components offer HDMI & Optical. Also GUI can use an upgrade as it is very bland and spartan.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Superb Surround Sound, Setup ease

Great improvement over my 1996 Sony DE 695 which defined HDMI connections as "Huh? What's that?" By now, I was feeding my DVD, DVR, and Apple TV directly into my TV's HDMI inputs and using the old AV Receiver just to switch optical and coax audio sources.
And I never did quite get the surround effect I always thot I should have. Mostly, it seemed like the center front speaker kinda had a bit of minuscule help from the L & R speakers, and every once in a while, we'd get a blurp of sound out of the rear speakers.
What a difference with the DH750. Full sound out of the front speakers, no longer sounding like its all just coming out of the TV speakers, and great surround out of rear speakers.
I also like that I can just turn on the DVD player or DVR and have the receiver know to power up to the source. But that seems to only work if everything is powered down to begin with.
I have to agree with other reviewers that the Receiver's source detection and switching leave a bit to be desired. It doesn't always get the source right, when switching sources -- often ending up at the "TV" source, which isn't even used.
The unit has a problem if all sources haven't been turned off. Occasionally, but not consistently, if the DVR is already on -- like, recording something -- and we try to switch from the Apple TV, Blu Ray, or Bluetooth sources, the audio new comes thru, but the video remains blank. We end up having to turn everything off and try again -- or reach behind the receiver to pull and replace DVR HDMI connector.
This isn't a problem for me. I can mess around with multiple remotes and finally come up with the right connections. But my wife just needs to be able to press a button and have it work.
Moving the speaker wires either back to the old receiver or a replacement would be a pain in the rear, so I'll keep the unit.
The sound is great, but I may have to resort to going back to directly feeding the everything to the TV HDMI ports and just use the Receiver to switch the audio optical and coax feeds.
As others have said, the menu interface is easy to use, although I had to go online for the "Help Guide" which is mentioned in passing, but not emphasized, in the Quick setup guide in order to understand what some of the options actually accomplished.

I love this receiver. It was easy to set up. It works seamlessly with all of my electronics. Not being an AV expert, my highest compliment is that it simply works.
