What's great about it: Processor/ GFX
What's not so great: Speakers
As a prior ASUS customer owning the G72GX, upgrading to this beast of a machine was a delight. I love everything about it except the speakers.
This is a must buy laptop!

What's great about it: Stunning graphics; fast processing
What's not so great: Weight, size, and speakers
I have had the G74sx-bbk9 for 1 week now and decided to do a review on it. The boot time is blazing fast mainly because of the 4 extra threads and 7200rpm hard drive. However, the amount of bloatware that comes with this tank is inconceivable! I spent half a day just updating and removing ads from Asus and best buy. Other than that, it can run popular games such as Battlefield 3 on high settings, with and average of 32 fps. The speakers are not the best, but I was comparing it to my old dell l501x laptop with jbl subwoofer... all in all a 4/5
This product is... Easy to set up and is lightning fast, great buy for gammers, alienware alternative

What's great about it: Great Price AND Great Performance
What's not so great: Keyboard
I've owned Dell XPS laptops and HP, high end laptops and this one beats them all. I use this for business and for gaming and it handles everything I throw at it. I've always been limited on my gaming with a laptop until I got this one. We have a couple high-end desktops at the house that don't run any better than this one.
Most of my laptops have burned up the graphics cards due to the poor venting but this one vents out the back! Genius! No more cooking your legs if you don't have a desk. The sales guys at Best Buy called it the stealth fighter and it's a bit big. I pulled it out a meeting with a bunch of guys and their sissy MacBooks. They were like "Whoa!, What's that?" :)
With the price being so reasonable, I thought there must be a catch but I've had it over six months and it runs great. I have no regrets on purchasing it.
My only complaints are the keyboard sometimes doesn't register a hit and it can be a bit frustrating and, there isn't an outside control to turn off the touchpad but it can be turned off on the taskbar.
This product is... Easy to set up and is lightning fast, a beast

What's great about it: Fast, nice screen, backlit LED keyboard, good graphics card, and really frickening fast!
What's not so great: Short battery life, but not really a negative considering that if you're gaming, you should be plugged in.
I've had this computer for about two months now, and I have to say that I am impressed! I've always wanted to have a really good gaming pc, and never had the money for one until now. For me it was a dream come true. This pc can play anything! Let me say that again, this pc can play ANYTHING! Most of the games can be played on the highest of settings, with the exception being Battlefield 3, which it plays on high. I play all the latest and most popular game with this pc: WoW, Starcraft 2, Battlefield 3, League of Legends, and they ALL run smooth. If you wanna drop some money into a nice gaming powerhouse of a computer, BUY THIS!

What's great about it: price, amazing speed/graphics
What's not so great: weight, sound quality, size
I purchased this laptop last Sept, 2011, which back then was model BBK-6 I believe. It was a upgrade from another G50v series I bought 3 years ago, which had some problem running SC2 at medium settings :( I was somewhat reluctant and skeptical about getting another ASUS again as there were other problems plaguing the old laptop, however I caught this laptop on sale for 1099 so I couldn't help getting it on the idea that I have 1 year warranty.
Price: I looked at some of the other models from HP, to Dell/Alienware and MSI, all of them were lot more expensive than model, especially when you consider the minimum gap is about $500 or more. Even though the RAM was on the short side, you can find them for sale around $30.
Graphics: Obviously I am pretty happy running SC2, not a big 1st person shooter fan, but I have Deus Ex: Human Revolution on high frame rate with no problem. Dragon age, Fallout, Empire Total War, if you are fan of any of those rpg/strategy/wargame series, you'll be happy with the frame rate. For other games I suggest you google notebookgraphicscard website, and it will list of games running at smooth rate at high quality.
Performance: Even before the RAM upgrade the laptop was running smooth with no lag. As long you keep your laptop clean and free of spy ware you shouldn't notice any drop in performance as I am going for the 8th month using it. The fan is fairly quiet, but once you have the sound on then you won't even notice it, and it only gets somewhat noise when you are using graphics intensive games. It's obvious ASUS took great time in figuring out how to redesign the fan and it's great. Another thing people forget to using gaming computer is for video editing, in which this laptop had no problem, to me it puts Apple computers to shame in a way since this laptop can do the same thing for half the price.
Sound: Definitely bigger upgrade from my G50v series, don't expect it to replace your boom box or beat Qsimo series' bass, but sufficient to say it does the job, however for best quality you might want to looking into invest in external speakers or headphones.
Design: I am loving the full size keyboard, which makes you sometimes forget that you are using a laptop while looking at the 17.3 inch screen. The downside like all desktop replacement laptop is that it's obviously heavy and bulky. I have two 15 inch laptop back bag, I can just barely squeeze the laptop in it, you can imagine it's not the most comfortable to haul around on your back. Either way the comfort is a necessity to sacrifice for the power and 'portability' that comes with it.
Battery life: regular surfing internet expect at least 2 hours or more. Gaming, around 90 minutes to 2 hours.

What's great about it: Super fast, quiet, excellent graphics
What's not so great: It's a little heavy for a laptop.
I've waited a long time for a computer like this. It's a little on the heavy side, but totally worth it! Rear facing exhaust ports keep my lap nice and cool, and this computer can handle anything you throw at it! I'm an avid gamer, and have run World of Warcraft, Battlefield 3, and Mass Effect 3 with full graphics settings, and this machine doesn't even bat an eyelash! Excellent computer, would recommend for anyone!

What's great about it: Gaming
What's not so great: Sound
I bought this laptop primarily because my G73-JH was being fixed. It was a bit of an impulse buy, but I had heard good things about the system. I primarily play Skyrim with my other system, and was having some performance issues with it. I wanted a machine that could handle it without any problems what so ever. The G73-JH can handle the game, but this system kicks it's butt. I can play on ultra settings with every mod running, and it doesn't even break a sweat. Since I travel so much for work I need a system that can travel, and handle all my games. This is it for me. I prefer the Nvidia GTX 560m card over the ATI Radeon 5870. The only negative of this system are the built in speakers. The sound quality is not fantastic, but I use headphones so it's a non issue for me. Great system for a fair price.

What's great about it: great performance and reliability
What's not so great: it is large (But I don't mind that), and the sound could be louder... otherwise it is excellent!
I am a programmer, and a web designer, but I also like to play games when I have the time to play, and this laptop has given me the best of both worlds... Its immediate responsiveness is indispensable while I'm working on any given project... and it renders video faster than any other computer that I have... but when I play games its also ready to take whatever I throw at it. I have not had a bump or a pause, not one hesitation on any game that I have played.
In the years to come when it is time to replace this laptop, I will definitely look for the next generation of its type! I am extremely satisfied with this purchase!

What's great about it: Speed, upgradability.
What's not so great: Speakers, Keyboard.
I immediately replaced the primary HDD with a 120GB SSD, and added an additional 8GB (2x4GB) of ram. This computer is amazing. Graphics are great, it can run most games at max settings. The wireless N+ is fast, the screen is amazing. I am completely satisfied with this laptop as a desktop replacement. I got a Tom Bihn Brain Cell to tote it around it. The hinge feels solid. They keyboard and speakers leave a little to be desired. I use head phones most of the time so the speakers are non-issue. It stays nice and cool and doesn't burn your legs like other laptops I've used. So no need for a lap desk. The wedge shape is great for ergonomics. I would recommend this laptop 100X over.

What's great about it: Performance, cool operation, backlit keyboard
The new BBK9 is improved with the 1080 display. Too bad the 2GB video card is still a cut down 128 bit card instead of the 192 bit card in non-BestBuy models. Can't give it 5 stars because the graphics chip is lower spec than the other G74sx's on the market.
Have had no other problems with this unit. The new cooling design keeps this laptop cool under the most intense stress tests. With no bottom vents to worry about, this machine can be used on the lap or carpet without a problem.

What's great about it: super fast quad-core, hyper-threaded processor, great ram upgradability
What's not so great: small, tinny-sounding speakers
I just recently purchased this laptop after receiving a larger-than-expected income tax refund. It works perfectly. Speakers are not as good as the harmon/kardon speakers on my 4+ year-old laptop. I upgraded the ram to the full 16GB using Samsung Electronics Extreme Low Voltage 30nm SODIMM 8 Dual Channel Kit DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM MV-3T4G3D/US and everything is still working great, no lag while gaming, etc. Runs at room temp most of the time and only warms up when under high loads. Colors are way more vibrant and clear on the screen. Speakers are kinda tinny-sounding so I usually just use my bose headphones when listening to music. My old Toshiba laptop cost me $2500+ when I bought it almost 5 years ago now. If I were to have purchased a comparable laptop to this one almost 5 years ago, it likely would have cost $10,000+. Excellent value for the price.

Love this laptop. I bought two of these for family. My old pc could not run star wars the old republic at all. I can now run it on full high settings with no lag at all; 20 fps in worst PVP fight on Ilum.

What's great about it: really fast, alot of space, really big, stylish
What's not so great: harddrives not in raid
Let me start off by saying that this laptop is amazing. It's incredibly fast, runs my games at crazy speeds, and the temperatures remain really low and stable. The one thing that I didn't like was that the hard drives aren't in a raid 0. It still is a terabyte though. However, it's just a disappointment. But really it's okay. This laptop is crazy fast. Another thing, the mousepad seems to always get in the way when I'm typing, like right now, and sometimes it really gets on my nerves.

What's not so great: Sound System, Keyboard, Size
This computer is fast and never strains itself doing tasks. Never heats up. Sound is mediocre, keyboard is unresponsive at times, and it is big. I've had trouble fitting it into any of the computer bags I own. I've had this computer for about a month, so maybe more time is needed for an official review, but so far so good.

I enjoy games, but I am not a gamer. Modern Warfare is my gig so far as games go and have a great time playing on my new Asus.
I bought the machine to run AutoCAD 2012, Revit 2012, and 3DSMax. In the short while I have been working with 3DSMax, I have been quite happy with performance. Rendering is better than the machine I have at work.
As a previous reviewer did, I updated to 16Gig with two 4's and had the same problem with the blue screen. Once when I added the first 4, three times when I added the second. Yeah, a bit nerve-racking at first, but not something which is having a prolonged effect.
The speakers are nothing to brag about. However, plugging in a headset or externals make the sound much better.

What's great about it: price, display, full functioning keyboard, sound, looks
What's not so great: blue screening when expanding ram to full 16GB (not cool)
so this is my first review ever. I got my laptop on the 22nd of this month, for the first four days that i had it she worked like a charm graphics displayed smoothly and it was able to run BF3 on high settings straight out of the box, couldn't ask for more. The problems started when i tried to expand the ram to the full 16GB using PKNY 4GB sticks 10600, the thing started to boot then went dead...i'm talking no screen at all and no boot noises from the internal. Took it back to BB and got a new one and decided maybe my grounding techniques were wrong so i had the geek squad install the ram, immediately following it blue screened twice during the boot process in front of me and the associate and a third time about 10min later.....
i have very mixed feelings about this product, because compared to the other choices (alienware, msi, origin, sager etc.) this was the one that had the least amount of bad reports but i managed to get two back to back in the period of one week. when it was working i was the envy of all my college friends but if a simple ram expand to it's max is enough to take it out of commission then i'm not too sure about it for long life.
This product is... A touch pad that works great
