Good oven, inconsistent stovetop
on June 3, 2014

We have owned this model for about a year and already the oven fan has needed to be replaced. The stove top does not keep a consistent temperature; when 3 burners are on at once the power of all of them is decreased. When only using one burner the power is too high and difficult to maintain at a low temp.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Works as good as it looks!

I love the look of this stove, but the performance is what matters. The power boil and perfect simmer are great features as is the oval burner with removable griddle in the center. Oven and convection are also great. Easy to clean.

Best purchase I made for my kitchen.

I have owned the Ge Cafe duel fuel range for about 4 1/2 years. My model does not have the three ring burner- highest output is 18,000 BTUs. I LOVE this range. I researched ranges for many months before making a decision. There is simply no better product out there for the price. Many "professional" ranges did not have the same level of BTU output, and were far more expensive. The grates can go in the dishwasher, and due to the non-enameled surface, look far less dirty (even when they are). The cooktop itself is stainless, and you must be careful not to use, for example, a steel wool pad on it. The burners are super easy to control the flame, and therefore easy to manipulate your heat for your cooking requirements. The grates are continuous across the entire cooktop, so it is easy to move large and heavy pots across the cooktop from one area to another. We use the removable center griddle quite often- it makes *perfect* french toast!
As for the oven, it has drastically improved my baking. The convection oven is simple to use and turns out perfect cookies every time. The internal fan can get a little loud, however. There are three racks- huge improvement over my previous two rack oven. The self clean mode does its job perfectly. I also use the lowest setting (170 degrees) to proof bread- I just turn it off as soon as it gets to temperature and wait 10 minutes- my bread has come out wonderfully. I will admit that we have not used the bottom oven nearly as much as we thought, however, this year will be the first year I will host both Thanksgiving AND Christmas, so I expect we will get quite a bit of use out of it in the coming months.
My *only* complaints are: 1) The screws on the cooktop under the burner grates can be annoying to clean food out of (I generally wet the area with hot water and then use a bamboo skewer stick to get out bits of food). 2) The knobs tend to get pretty hot when the oven is at a high temp, or the front burners are used for a long period of time (like making stock).
When I bought this range, I had an interest in becoming a better cook. This range has made that EASY and enjoyable. Truly the best money we have spent on any appliance in our home.

I am very happy that I purchased this Cafe Series range. It has the feel of a high quality appliance. I am very satisfied with its performance, both stove top and oven. All the knobs and touch controls are very easy to use. It is also easy to clean.

Beautiful range, pretty nice features

We bought the entire Cafe line for our kitchen. These are beautiful appliances. I read other reviews about the range and was a bit worried, but there are always bad reviews that are strange for some reason.
A couple things from the bad reviews I read that I wanted to clear up in my review:
1. The boiling. We have 3 different types of pots/pans - Kirkland clad SS, a cheaper non-clad, copper bottom SS, and ceramic coated pans. We have had zero issues with them reaching temp, boiling water etc. It seems like it may be a little slower to boil, but nothing we would ever think to complain about.
2. I read some review about the oven controls in front being too sensitive or easy to hit and turn off the oven. If that is the case, that person must have a large mid-section, because this is not a problem for my wife and I who are average size.
We really love the baking drawer feature. We wanted a double oven, but the fact that the small oven was on top and larger oven on the bottom really kept us from doing this. The baking drawer is the perfect way to get that second oven in the configuration we wanted (main oven on top).
The only minor complaint I have is the baking drawer is a little off centered. We wouldn't have noticed it but the refrigerator bottom freezer drawer was the same (it was a bigger issue so we are replacing it).

Functional and beautiful

We bought this range to replace an older glass cooktop. Install was a snap, however, when the delivery man roughly set it down from his dolly, one of the cheep plastic feet in the bottom broke. These feet are necessary to level the appliance. Luckily, we were able to shim it up so it is level.
The gas cooktop is excellent. Plenty of power for just about anything. The cast iron grates are tough but light enough to easily lift out and clean. The griddle is not cast and scratches very easily. Use it when you need a griddle but I'd recommend storing it when not in use. The cast iron center grate is much more durable.
The electric oven works as advertised. It has good convection capability and a lot of space. It comes with three racks.
The warming oven is excellent if you like to cook in stages like we do. There is no window to view the food but this hasn't been an issue so far.
The control panel and display are excellent and easy to clean. It is very sensitive, however, and can easily be activated with a mere touch. The good news is that an audible beep alerts you anytime a button is pushed. Also, the touch glass requires skin contact so you won't have to worry about bumping it with your waist, unless you like to cook naked.

only one complaint

Great all around range. My only complaint is the knobs for the burners are actually plastic with a thin layer of stainless. When the oven door was left open with the oven on it melted 2 of the knobs. I bought mine in 2008 so maybe they have changed this. On this site looking for new knobs!
