STAINLESS STEEL TOP IS A DISASTER
on August 30, 2012

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Have owned this range for a couple of months and am afraid to use it -- only used it a few times. The top of the range should be a more durable product other than stainless steel -- it scratches just from gently wiping it --never mind having to worry about spills and getting them wiped up without totally scratching up the stove top. It is a very poor choice to have stainless on the top cooking surface of the cooktop -- would certainly not even consider purchasing this range again -- am already regretting it! Paid too much money for a product that will look totally scratched and overly worn in no time --extremely disappointed it this product. It is pretty to look at, but certainly not practical to use! I think G.E. should create some sort of a fix to cover or replace the existing stainless steel "range top" to the "unhappy people" that have already purchased this easily scratched range top! Paid way to much money to have a new product become old looking and misused when it has not been!

Unreliable technology

I used my new GE Café range for about 2 months and then all of the surface burners stopped working. The GE technician could not diagnose the problem and ordered many inappropriate parts. We requested a different GE technician who finally, with the help of GE tech support, diagnosed a bad controller board. The earliest availability for a replacement part was 3 months out, so we requested a replacement stove. It took 6 1/2 weeks to get a replacement unit.

Stainless is not what I thought/poor quality

We waited for years to buy this stove. When we finally could afford to update my kitchen, we bought it. Unfortuneatly, We are not completely satisfied. The stainless scratches and dents VERY easily. Every time the grates are removed to clean it, they scratch it a little more. We have only had the stove for approximately 3 months it is all scratched up and has a huge dent in the top.

Not as useful as the 40-year-old GE range it replaced
on January 10, 2013

Pros:
- Looks good, not Avocado color!
- Knobs on front are easy to use
- Choice of burner sizes is handy
Cons:
- Harder to keep clean than conventional range, need to scrub it off after every use.
- Range sits 3/4" away from wall, needed to fabricate a custom backsplash to fill gap.
- Back lip is short, stuff can fall behind range.
- Broiler has two settings: too hot & not hot enough. Would prefer single setting half-way inbetween.
- Burners cycle on and off like a cheap hotplate. Hard to get even heat. Won't stay hot to boil large pot quickly.
- Baking drawer is slow to heat, uneven. Used it once, A storage drawer would be more useful.
- Burner failed after 6 months. Bad sign.
- Has typical shortcomings of radiant cooktop--slow to cool down, pans dance around if not perfectly flat.

OK if you can live without an oven light
on January 29, 2016

The most important thing you need to know about this range is that there are two lightbulbs inside the oven, and they will not last more than 21 days with normal use. That is my experience through seven pairs of lightbulbs across two range units in four months. Cost aside, it's a pain to change the bulbs. More importantly, you can't change the bulbs while the oven is in use and that's when you need the illumination.
If you don't really care about a basic feature like an oven light, or don't mind replacing oven light bulbs every 2-3 weeks, I recommend this model without hesitation. The burners are very powerful and the middle griddle is a nice feature. The oven works well with even heat.
Also be aware that the second small/lower warming drawer takes quite a long time to preheat. Refer to the manual for specifics.

Bad taste on green bean casserole baked in lower oven.
on February 4, 2012

I really enjoy this oven, however for the first time I baked a green bean casserole in the lower oven while baking a ham in the mail oven the casserole came out with a bad taste similar to using too much lighter fluid on charcoal when grilling. Is there a breaking in period on the lower oven or should I not use both of them at the same time?

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Bought this range and a companion micro/convection oven as part of our kitchen renovaton. Range works great. easy to use and control. And it looks great too. I recommend the dual-fuel over the gas/gas. Oven i seasy to control for consistent temperature.
