After recording detailed instructions for 2 weeks, the device will not turn on and there is no way to retrieve the info stored inside. No accessories to be found.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

This is a ICD-BX140, evidently the basic model and others will do a ton more stuff,
but it does what I bought it for and I am happy

no USB connection to off-load recordings

Bought several for a oral history project, but after recording and ready to archive the interviews...No way to connect them to a computer or off-load the recordings to a storage device. Our older Sonys had this capability.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Stereo, not Mono

This recorder has a built-in microphone and speaker, so the sound will be mono. However, it also has external microphone and headphone jacks. If you connect a stereo microphone and stereo headphone, it will record and playback stereo sound. The only downside is battery life. It seems to lose battery power over time even while it is OFF.
I would recommend this to a friend!
