What is wrong with the ink?

I just bought this double sized black ink replacement. I've made some copies but very few pages considering what they show I should get. I have already received a warning that it's low on ink. What is going on?

It's ink. You put it in the printer and it goes onto paper. These are its only "features". The ink actually stays on the paper, so I guess its "performance" is good. Like all printer ink, it is way way too expensive.
