Nice encounter !

I bought my EOS 5d mark iii because my wife has a 6d and I was jealous ! I love the really nice ergonomics. All the buttons and commands are very naturally situated on the body. And I really love the silent mode. I mean the silent mode is just extraordinary. It is a real satisfaction to take a picture and nobody can hear you. About image quality I find the amount of detail and crispness beautiful and the colours are gorgeous. Warm yet very natural. I did not give the camera five stars just because the viewfinder could be better. I have difficulties to see into the corners sometimes. Maybe the mark iv will be granted the 1DX's finder, which I think is the best optical viewfinder on the market. By far. Anyway I am new to the EOS world and I love my new companion. As to lenses I have the 24-70mm f/2.8 ii, which is like tack sharp all the time and produces very beautiful colours.

Huge upgrade from 5D Mark II

Cameras controls are changed and the positioning is improved. Menues are expanded and made easier to use. Even the grips on the camera are improved for better feel and secured handling. The shutter sound is now clean crisp and precise. There are so many aspects to be delighted with but a particular addition is the HDR in camera capability. bracketing with choices of +- 1 to 3 EV raw with a jpg output offer fantastic photos in challenging lighting without flash. The results were stunning in color, clarity and visual range. The more I pushed for the camera's limits the better the output became. This was my first big shoot with the new camera. I couldn't be happier with it. But there is still the 1DX 4... probably next.
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, Simple controls/menu
I would recommend this to a friend!

this camera is an excellent full frame DSLR. I have used it for landscapes, portraits, sports in many light conditions with excellent result.
I used this camera for more than a year and I used it alternates with 1DX on 70-200 / f. 28L II and 16-35 / f 2.8 lenses. Both cameras giving me total satisfaction result.
In summary, 5DMK3 is fast response, low noise on high ISO, sharp image with intuitive menu.
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Solid Operation

All around winner

I am an enthusiastic amateur with professional background in photomicroscopy. I have had the 5D Mark III for a year and use it mostly for still photography (macro, landscape). Like most other reviewers, I have been pleased with image quality. Love the Quick Menu for most common settings. Strongly recommend using with L series lenses to get optimum performance. Would appreciate future attention to lighter weight, particularly when combined with the18-300 mm L series zoom lens! Also, would appreciate easier access to a few other settings besides those in the Quick menu - mirror lockup, memory card format, for example.

Upgraded from 7D... mixed feelings!

Don't take me wrong, this is an awesome camera!!!!.....but is not worth the difference in price vs the 7D. Maybe most of the 5D Mark II users can certainly see a huge gap compared to the Mark III, buy not the 7D users.
I mostly use my camera for travel purposes, including landscape and sports. My 7D used to give me an excellent performance, but I still wanted to try the Mark III. There is only a couple of significant differences between the 7D and the Mark III, and these are the full frame vs the cropped sensor and the high ISO that lets you take better pictures indoors or in low light conditions. The 7D has even a faster continues shooting speed of 8 fps vs the Mark III that shoots at 6 fps.
If you are a sports photographer or even a journalist, stick to the 7D. If you are a wedding or landscape photographer and have the money to pay for the 5D Mark II then go for it.
Bottom line, if you are on a budget you may want to spend your money in good glasses rather than a such a expensive camera.
Pros: quiet, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD
Cons: expensive

I recently purchased the 5DIII, 24-70mm, 70-200mm, and 100-400mm camera and lenses. For me this was a long awaited purchase coming from the T3i. I could not be any happier!!! I shoot in all formats from night photography to sporting events and the quality of these lenses and camera are second to none. My photos have increased in quality, clarity and the ability to capture that special moment is excellent!! I am looking forward to many YEARS with this equipment and the qaulity of CANON!!!

A little too expensive
on April 10, 2012

I wrote a longer review, but it was rejected because I mentioned the elephant in the room, the other 800 pound gorilla that this camera is competing with.
Basically, this camera is excellent. But it's just a little more expensive than the "other" camera. That camera has slightly better image quality. This camera has better low light performance and more fps.
If this Canon were to drop the price of this camera, we would have a battle between two equally powerful 800 pound gorillas. As it stands, we now have a battle between two gorillas, one of which is $xxx overweight.
P.S. This review is far less detailed and "poetic" than the other I did, but I guess the important thing is not real facts, but that we leave out minor details like prices and competitor's names even though everyone knows what they are.
