The build quality is imediately apparent as soon as you pick it up for the first time, more tank like than even a 7D. IQ is perfect, but I didn't like the default settings a bit soft for me so I just bumped up sharpness to at least 6 in standard and portrait, plus contrast saturation only one notch. Love all the AF options, just a little surprised the some time all AF points light up despite only sellecting less. I can tell this will be my go to body in every aspect of the word. Similar to 1D previous series but in a smaller package. Didn't also like to only 200 sync speed can see curtain even at 200, wound up using a ND filter. My 7D is rated at 250, but don't see curtain till 400. ISO performance it through the roof, I'm very spectical of DXO, ISO rating 2800+ on the D800. as they still have not rated the 5Dmk3 and this body is much better. I also did see any addition IQ performance comparing Imagine Resources images. Lets see how long DXO takes to rate this body and it thier rating is consistant with the IQ on this body. All my "L" glass just came alive after trying to use on 7D, much better IQ and ISO. this body is 4-5 times better then my 7D in both departments. we would be only splitting hairs when it comes to the 5Dmk3 and D800. The rest is up to us professional photographers not any specs, rating, reviews or opinions. this body is ment for professional imagery.

Best camera ever

Easy to pick up and start shooting. I find the layers of menu settings logically laid out and easy to navigate. I could not have asked for a sharper, low noise, shoot in the dark camera. My studio does everything from portraits to weddings, infants to mature adults, stills and video and this is my go to camera for everything. I have tried a lot of other cameras since 1972 when my first wedding was with a 2 1/4 x 2 3/4 press camera and this is the best all around camera in the world.

5D vs Rebel
on June 10, 2012

Having just upgraded to 5D mark III from T2i, I read the announcement of the upcoming T4i. I wonder why some of the essential Rebel's features have been excluded from the latest 5D, such as:
- articulated LCD screen
- continuous focus for video
- stereo mic.
I occasionally shoot video, and achieving perfect manual focus is really hard. Having continuous focus would make the video mode so much more usable.
Overall, I realize that 5D is superior for still images, but the latest Rebel (T4i) is way better for video. Why can't 5D be good at both?
Pros: quiet, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Solid Operation, low-light performance
Cons: Missing features/settings, Difficult to use, Heavy/Bulky, no continuous focus in video mode, no manual focus assistance in video mode, mono mic, no articulated screen, very expensive
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I guess Canon heard me that day I first got my 7D. I wished that I had a 7D with a full frame sensor. I don't remember my 7D well enough to say it is exactly that but it sure feels like it. I learn to love my 5DII with all it's shortcomings, the images and ISO performances was just so good. The 7D sort of the opposite, very functional but IQ and ISO nots so much. I am a little disappointed in the price of the 5DIII, I feel it should have been priced similarly to the D800. I feel like all 5DII owners should have received kick back for sticking with the line.
The only thing I don't like about the mkIII is the sound of the shutter, but hey...
First thing I noticed was how much more rigid the body is over the mkII. I was very disappointed in the mkII. It creaked by the battery/CF door area. It was actually worse than my 40D. The ergonomics are perfect for my hands. I can't wait to get the grip. I'm excited about the extra multi controller. I don't have software to edit mkIII RAWs yet, but the jpgs without NR on look to be 1.5 to 2 stops better. Another improvement over the mkII, I don't see the banding in the shadows of images that have been pushed. Again this is just from the jpgs but it appears to be substantially better. I do see some red and blue blotchiness in heavily pushed images, but I think this can be expected.
Also I am very happy Canon didn't go MP crazy. I shoot a lot of images, storing 21MP eats up tons of space and for what I shoot, 16MP is plenty, so the fact that they had the fortitude to not go overboard. Although, I think going to 24MP may have been a better marketing move but I guess they wanted the 1920p scale. Must work nice for scaling video. Anyway, it's an Awesome camera. If you own(ed) a 5DII or 7D, do yourself a favor, buy one of these and feel for filled.
Pros: auto focus, resolution
Cons: price

Full-frame Canon

Upgraded from a 20D six weeks back and have spent the time gradually understanding what is a significant advancement in technology. Love the full frame aspect of the camera, especially with my 24-105 which was always a touch long for crop sensor. Focussing is, for the most part, exceptional with a few minor hiccups when low contrast may confound. Features are a real winner, especially the HDR and to date the low-light performance is terrific. It is a pleasure to hold, although it is quite bulky and heavy, very much a personal thing. The price is on the high side compared to the competition, but generally most users will already have Canon lenses making it more economical that replacing everything. Some concern about the light-leak issue which we'll hopefully see resolved soon. If you've got Canon lenses, this is THE FF SLR for you.
Pros: features, build, low-light, frames per second, focussing, display, user functions
Cons: price, complexity, teething issues
