full frame big brother of 7D

Having pushed my 7Ds to their limits, I wanted to move to a full frame camera with better light gathering and creative control, but wanted good firmware/features. I never bonded well with the 5d2.
Some of the very good features of the 5d3 are immediately obvious: - ability to select range of ISOs and shutter for Tv and Av - huge ISO range - decent speed - dual cards (although not sure why it's not dual CF cards) - excellent AF point selection and tracking
The low light focusing seems reasonably good. There's some hunting, but I'm able to get a lock without too much effort.
Because I've only barely begun to familiarize myself with this camera, I can't give a more detailed review, but I'm liking what I see so far. However, the price is double what a 5d2 costs, and I really have my doubts that it's double the camera. But it's definitely a significant step up.
Pros: iso, af points, selectable iso/shutter ranges, iq
Cons: price, no uncompressed hdmi out

Great surprise

Before I ordered this camera I wondered if it was worth the $1000 more than I paid for the Mark 2. I did not realize all the added features on this upgrade. It is well worth the additional cost. One feature that I appreciate is the lock on the mode dial. On the Mark 2 this would get turned without my knowledge.
Pros: excellent image quality, Superior build quality
Cons: noisy

Superb upgrade from 7D

I've been shooting photography for about 4 years and those have all been with crop sensor camera's. Been wanting to move to fullframe and finally took the plunge when the 5d3 was announced. Image quality is very clean. It was a bit more than i had been willing to spend. Wish it would've been priced along the line of its competitors.
Pros: very clean high iso
Cons: a bit too pricey

One fatal flaw
on September 23, 2012

If you shot in daylight this camera is great. If you shot at night , which is suppose to be this cameras strong point , there is a giant flaw.
There is no illuminated focus point in the viewfinder. If you try to shot moving objects in a dark environment you end up with no focus point in the viewfinder. It is like playing darts with the dart board swinging on a rope. You end up searching around with the camera until it hits the subject and then try to track it to stay in focus with not being able to see where the focus is. If you shot things that move at night this might not be a good choice.

Still LIVE this WONDERFUL Camera
High performance camera. feels very solid in my hands. From the moment I held this camera in my hands, the design and placement of every button (etc.) made sense. Excellent photo quality. Absolutely worth every penny. I really enjoyed a lot the art of Photography with this camera And yet I still do it in every moment. so I decided to buy another one to replace my old 5D3
Thanks Canon...

Upgrade to this from a discontinued Rebel T1i. Lucky for me, I upgraded from a EF-S 18-55mm stock lens to a 50mm f/1.4 USM without knowing about the crop factor and that the 50mm f/1.4 I have is designed/built for full frame DSLR. I later on learned about full frame and non full frame bodies and realized I wanted to buy a full frame. While I was eyeing on the 5D Mark II, all the other lenses I bought after my 50mm 1.4 are all EF. But before I could buy the 5D Mark II, the 5D Mark III was announced and I became curious. After doing the homework, I bit the bullet and purchased the 5D Mark III. I've never been happier. My buddy uses a 5D Mark II so I've learned and noticed the differences. Now my Rebel T1i is collecting dust. Great ISO and 61 AF points! I can go on but I'll be here all night.
Pros: good battery life, quiet, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
I would recommend this to a friend!
