Good Purchase - with little downsides...

I cannot import files from my new Canon 5D Mark III.
I am running Mac OS X 10.7.5 with Apple Aperture and Adobe Lightroom. However, Windows works flawless. Reading up on this I found that it is a rather common issue with RAW files for the Mark III. Therefore I think the responsible party should move quickly! And if CANON is not responsible it should put pressure on the other parties(most likely apple) to fix it!
Shelling out 3k for a camera should not give me the headache, which it currently does!
Here is the console log for Apple Aperture; it will open the preview window and then simply freeze

broken dial

I've had my mark3 since June 2012. I also own the mark2. I now use it as a backup camera. No comparison in my opinion. Last week the top part of the dial came off my camera while traveling on the plane to Atlanta. So disappointed. The camera never left my neck. The dial was stuck on the A setting. needless to say wrecked my week in Atlanta. I'm sending it in for repair. Still a faithful canon user.

After waiting for the mark iii

Having purchased a 5 D "classic" with kit L 24~105 in 2007 and soon after a 70~200 2.8 IS (also first iteration). The 5d mark ii was releasedd a few months later. I waited qiute a while for the mark iii knowing I could not justify the mark ii so soon after buying the "classic" I should say I have really enjoyed using my 5 D It continues to provide great files.
The files on the mark iii have a lot more CA (purple/cyan fringing) and are more prone to moire in recording patterns. I beleive this is due to the smaller, more numerous pixels. Lightroom and or Ps only seem to get rid of some of this fringing.
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings

Poor

Many features of this camera are a vast improvement over the Mark 2 ie auto focus etc.
But the lack of dynamic range is a real problem and more importantly if you need to open up the shadows in post at all you get horrible sensor pattern noise.
And the exposer meter is no winner either very easily fooled into under or over exposer.
Pros: good battery life, quiet, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation
Cons: Poor image quality, noisy, sensor pattern noise

Not Ready Yet :-(

No tethering in Lightroom
No tethering in EOS Utility
Seems like most Canon and 3rd Party Software not ready - check the Canon download page to get an idea. Included CD Rom has software that doesn't work with this Camera...yet...when?
Shooting the picture is only one aspect of a using a camera - software completes the system and workflow - means this camera cannot yet replace a 5DMKII.
Probably will be a great Camera when everything is ready and there are some good promos that could make it worth picking up now, but don't get rid of your MKII yet if you are doing actual work.
Pros: good battery life, quiet, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, easy to use
Cons: Missing features/settings, missing software

Shoots great, but...

Used the 5D Mk III today for the first time. Boy, is it amazing! Shoots spectacularly in lowlight and did nothing but exceed my expectations. My only complaint is this: No support in LR, and the software seems to not be working.
Got home right away and tried to load into LR. It recognized the camera, and imported all the JPEGS (realized about 20 pics in that I wasnt shooting RAW yet.) Took forever to finish importing, only to tell me that they weren't recognized. So I downloaded ImageBrowser EX and CameraWindow, and tried that way. Everytime I open CameraWindow (or plug in the camera) it opens but automatically closes. So I'm stuck with the problem of having wonderful pictures, but not ACTUALLY having them.
Needless to say, after 2 hours of trying to get this working to no avail, I'm a bit frazzled. Hoping that I can wake up and have this all sorted out.
I guess you just have to roll with the punches...

Well build camera. Perfect auto focus. Nice features.
I miss the information about lens focal range during image review on camera display. Missing AF-linked spot metering.
A little overpriced.
Pros: quiet, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, Simple controls/menu
Cons: missing interval shooting/time lapse, missing af-linked spot metering
I would recommend this to a friend!
