updater still goofy

Canon has never been able to figure out that this product should update without having to have the CD. This is 2013 CDs are useless. Just let us download the installer.
Pros: Solid Operation, Lightweight/Portable, easy to use
Cons: updates are annoyingly difficult, only eos utility is worth installing

Its a love hate relationship...

I have owned
EOS Rebel 6 mega pixel
EOS 10D
2 - EOS 20D's
EOS 40D
EOS 5D - Revolutionary
EOS 50D
EOS 5D Mark II - Revolutionary
Now I bought a 5D Mark III
I am a little disappointed, I would have liked a few more pixels. Its been over 3 years. It does seem like a solid camera. But the competition has some things going for it... let me name the 4 main reason I am not happy.
Mark III is XXX more than its competitor
Mark III does not have a face recognition auto focus... (this is huge.... for getting the eyes in focus)
5D's have led the way in pixels... not anymore
A pop up flash is nice for shooting at home - to create enough ambient light to take those dark high iso pictures. They look better with a little flash anyway than they do with none.
The Mark III finally has a good auto-focusing system - still not as fast as the older 8 mega pixel 1D Mark II (8 mega pixel).
Some great things about it... it has a very quiet picture taking ability.
6 Frames a second could come in handy.
Dual memory card slots.
If I jump ship it will be for these reasons
XXX more than competition
5D series has not given us anymore pixels - what it was known for
(Huge Reason - does not have face detection auto focus)
(I value a little pop up flash to create ambient light by reflecting)

Great for stills, soft low res HD video quality

First off I have to say this camera takes amazing still photographs, the autofocus system works really well. I'm amazed at the quality of the stills from 5D3. I purchased the kit version with the included 24-105mm F4.0/L USM IS lens. I've read so many reviews of this camera and thought it would be a great performer with HD video as well based on what I read, for me the HD video was a downer the quality is very soft and does not look sharp even on the fantastic LCD screen of the camera. If it looks soft on the LCD you can be sure it will look soft when downloaded to your computer. I would recommend the camera but only for stills, if sharp and high resolution HD videos are what you're looking then the 5D3 may not be your best choice at this time.
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, excellent still image quality
Cons: poor hd video quality very soft, expensive
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Autofocus in video mode is missing (even my 4y old mobile have it). So if you'll decide to shoot video for your video blog. There is only one possibility to increase (highly) your aperture to stay in focus. Or ask someone to stay behind your camera and follow your subject to keep in focus. This is small bolt-on, but its missing and this is very annoying:( at least for me..
Pros: good battery life, quiet, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
Cons: Slow Start-up time, Heavy/Bulky
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Nice but noisy

Features, handling and viewfinder are all better than the 5D2. Love the "silent" shutter and, at last, you can do enough brackets for HDR. The only drawback I can see, for a still photographer is the noise level which is similar to the 5D2. There are other full frame sensor cameras with much lower noise.
Pros: good battery life, quiet, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, dual axis electronic level
Cons: noisy
I would recommend this to a friend!
