We run the 770 daily on our hardwood floor area mostly due to pet hair. The 770 does multiple passes on the kitchen, dining room and hallway and puts itself away when it is done. To make it more convenient, I used felt pads to raise a low couch so that there would be no impediments and I know that the Roomba appreciates the extra headroom. We love this thing.
Pros: Easy To Empty, Easy To Use, Efficient, Powerful/Good Suction

doesnt clean all types of carpets/rugs

i just got new 770 roomba and it works well on flat surface. However, every singe time it goes over my rug it gets stuck. it gets kinda annoying if i have to roll in my rug and move it from the floor before every cleaning cycle. other way around, i would have to be here to jump in to rescue when poor guy gets stuck. My rug is not even too fluffy or shaggy - its one of those new silk rugs about 0.5 tick. Also, it doesn't strategically cover entire floor as advertised. Roomba would cover about 90% of the floor surface and you would still have to go behind and finish the job yourself. Its still helpful having it especially if you are a pet owner! It will save you some time, but do not expect roomba to be independent and clean every inch of your home...

Our Roomba 770 definitely picked up a lot of debris, but its navigational algorithms are so poor, that in seven attempts, it hasn't managed to return to its docking station once without asking to be moved to a new location and deactivating. There is nothing particularly tricky about our apartment. It's only 500 square feet, yet apparently it is littered with Roomba kryptonite, such as sofas and chair. Despite setting up a virtual wall and attempting to block the back of the sofa with books, the stupid Roomba plows forward and manages to wedge itself under the sofa almost every time--that's assuming it doesn't trap itself between two chairs, or behind a door first. I would definitely not recommend this product to others. The technology shows promise, and hopefully iRobot will have a practical model in a few years.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Does NOT work with lighthouses.

I love the robot apart from the fact that it does NOT in any way work with the Lighthouses. It comes with Virtual Walls and works with them but i thought i could just buy the lighthouse from the store afterwords. I was BADLY mistaken. the 780/790 comes with the lighthouses and are the only ones that work with them! :(

I love my Roomba

I own 2 cats. One of them is a Persian that really sheds a lot and prior to Roomba there was always cat hair on the floor but NO MORE! We turn the Roomba on whenever we leave the house and it cleans the entire main floor automatically. When we arrive back at home the Roomba is parked at its charging station getting ready for the next use. Everytime we use it the dirt bin is completely full when it returns to the charging station. It does a great job of cleaning hard wood, carpet and tile.

I was surprised at how well the system cleans. You still have to monitor it as it can get stuck underneath cabinets, tables, etc. It's great for picking up dust and small debris that goes unnoticed. And easy to use frequently. Only complaint is that the warning messages should repeat longer so you can eventually hear it and resolve any issues. Enjoyed it so much I bought the Ibrava dry/wet mop as well.
