Excellent!

I've had a 780 for several years and have been very pleased with it. I bought the 770 for my vacation house. As far as I can tell, the only difference, for $100 less, was buttons instead of touchpads, and that means nothing to me. This 770 is much quieter than my old 780, but performs equally well. It got stuck under my couch, but I plan to just put risers under the couch legs, since cleaning under the couch is very important to me. The light from a window shines under this couch and shows all the dust when you walk in the door! It does equally well on all floor surfaces and is very self-sufficient. It will do hardwood with area rugs and will go easily from hardwood to tile. It goes over the wood thresholds easily. Overall, I am very pleased with its performance and very pleased that it is quieter than my old one.
Pros: Cleans Effectively, Cleans Under Furniture, Covers Entire Room, Deep Cleaning Ability, Hassle Free Operation, Large Debris Bin, Long Run Time, Pet Friendly
Cons: Can Get Stuck

I love this thing! We have had this Roomba for about 2 years now. It has never needed maintenance. It does requires a good take apart to clean about every 3 uses, but is still far less time consuming than vacuuming. It does get stuck under low cupboards and furniture, but this really is not a big problem. You pull him out and let him go again. I put a seam ripper in his cleaning bag and that works great to get all the hair and fabric off his spin brushes. The tool provided is plastic and does not seem strong enough.
Pros: Cleans Effectively, Cleans Under Furniture, Covers Entire Room, Hassle Free Operation, Large Debris Bin, Long Run Time
Cons: Can Get Stuck

Love our Roomba!

We absolutely love having our 770 Roomba around. Our dog sheds heavily, and although he is trained to stay on the tiled surface areas of the kitchen and master bedroom, without daily sweeping or vacuuming, the hair is unmanageable. It also gets transferred from the hard floors to the carpet and furniture by our feet. I love being able to relax or get other work around the house done while Roomba vacuums for me. I empty the bin after every use, which is not a big deal to me because it takes minutes to do and I used to empty my upright vacuum's bin every other day and that was after I pushed it around for 20 minutues. Even using Roomba daily, I am amazed at how much hair and dust is gathered in the bin. Customer service has also been a pleasure to work with- I was mistakenly charged sales tax, but was issued a refund after contacting iRobot. I'll be looking into a Scooba next.
Pros: Cleans Effectively, Cleans Under Furniture, Covers Entire Room, Hassle Free Operation, Quiet
Cons: Must Empty Bin Often

A nearly great product.

We have been using our 770 for just over a month now, and are generally happy with the way it cleans. The only problem with cleaning is that it has a very hard time going from hard surface floors to rugs. We have a fairly thick oriental carpet on the wood floor in our dining room which it rarely can climb onto, and even thinner area rugs sometimes stop it. Luckily the pet hair problem is a thing of the past. Maintenance has been a greater chore than I anticipated. The bin is small and needs to be emptied after every other use, and the hair from our pets requires frequent cleaning of the brushes. I purposely marked quiet operation as both a pro and a con. I feel that it is actually very quiet for a vacuum cleaner....as long as you keep the rear caster wheel free from pet hair. When too much hair gets wrapped around it, it starts to squeak and the noise becomes much more objectionable. To all the users complaining of noise, try pulling it out and cleaning it. That leads up to probably the biggest problem with the machine. That wheel is not designed to be easily removed and cleaned. I anticipate that the plastic housing holding the wheel will not survive very long. I hope that iRobot notices this issue and changes the design somewhat. It would not be a hard fix. Despite the complaints, we are overall quite pleased with the 770.
Pros: Cleans Effectively, Cleans Under Furniture, Covers Entire Room, Long Run Time, Pet Friendly, Quiet
Cons: Can Get Stuck, Frequent Maintenance, Noisy

My brother has had a Roomba for many years and would always try to get me to buy one. I already had an upright vacuum so didn't want to spend the money on something I already had, a vacuum. But my upright vacuum wasn't picking up the dirt anymore and was in need of a new one and decided to spend the money for the Roomba. Have had it for only a week and totally in love with the little machine. I have a black lab that sheds so bad and this machine picks up the dog hair effortlessly. I don't think my carpets are dirty since it runs everyday, but it keeps picking up hair and dirt that I can't see. My carpets look so clean and my kitchen floor is dirt free. I wish I would have bought one sooner.
Pros: Easy To Install, Easy To Use

J Edgar is better than a Hoover

We were worried about the fringed area rugs, but he doesn't have any trouble with them. We have a floor level hearth with a gas fireplace. J. Edgar decided that he needed to remove the decorative rocks. We'll put a virtual wall there in the future when he does that room. With three rooms and a hall upstairs, and 4 rooms and a hall downstairs, he has yet to be allowed to find his way to his dock. He gets carried a lot, but that's OK. We're thinking about getting him a little brother (600) for upstairs. Oh yeah, our Beagle, Buddy, completely ignores him, unlike the big vacuum.

iRobot Roomba 780

I own a iRobot Roomba 780 for just under 2 years. It works as described. It is best on hardwood or tiled floors. Timed starts works well. Edge sensor is so so. I had to catch it from falling down the stairs a couple times. I suggest to place the virtual walls or something to block from falling off the stairs. Thick or small rugs are an issue. It will chew it up and get stuck. Remove any cables off the floor. They will get chewed up and or the Roomba will pull whatever it is connected to onto the floor and possibly damage it. Pick up any small toys (Lego pieces) Roomba will sweep that all up. I'm not sure if you want to sift through the catch to retrieve them. Just wish Roomba can get into tighter spaces. I usually manually place Roomba back onto the base, but the (find its home) works when Roomba has any more juice left in it to get home. All of a sudden the base stopped charging. That's the reason I am on the site today. To buy new base. I hope that's the cause. I'm not sure if I would ever buy another because cost for it on the high side.
Pros: Cleans Under Furniture, Hassle Free Operation
Cons: Can Get Stuck, Does Not Clean Stairs, Frequent Maintenance, Noisy

I love it!

I love the roomba! I use it daily and the dust and pet hair problems have become much more manageable. I feel like I just got a washing machine for the first time - a miracle! Plus having a robot is so twenty-first century. Problems: I find it absoluetly outrageous that the lighthouse virtual wall things need batteries. Why don't they just plug into the wall recharger? It seems terribly wasteful. My Rooma didn't come with a paper owner's manual & I hate turning on the computer to figure out what's wrong with it. Having to remove a small screw to take off the spinning brush is not good - I'm surely going to lose or strip that screw. It's just a little too tall to fit under my radiators. Oh well! It gets stuck on the thresholds. I have a 19th century house, and there are several of these. One of my cats hates it, the other one doesn't seem to care one way or the other. Tips: keep it clean. clean it every day. Take the brushes out and clean them at least every two days if you have pet hair. I use a seam ripper (availalbe from your local fabric store) - it's more versitile than the razor cleaning tool the roomba comes with. google kittens riding roomba. You won't regret it.
Pros: Cleans Effectively, Cleans Under Furniture, Covers Entire Room, Daily Cleaning, Hassle Free Operation, Long Run Time, Pet Friendly, Time saver
Cons: Can Get Stuck, Frequent Maintenance
