Just purchased this for the 4th to smoke some pork shoulders to replace a smoker from another company that was 10 years old. This is not a smoker, it leaks smoke all over the unit. There is actually about a 1" gap around the lid to the base. It leaks around the bolt holes for the legs. I shouldn't have to seal a new unit to hold smoke.
Poor design, poor quality.

Could be soo much better out of the box.

Out of the box, disappointing. Why spot weld vs fully sealing its seam. I've had mine for two yrs. To be able to use it as a smoker, I had to invest in it by upgrading on its craftsmanship. To use it only as a grill, i.e. burgers and dogs, its fine, but it cost me more than I paid for it to be able to use as a smoker.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Smoker works pretty good, firebox could be better.

I have used this smoker for four years. The smoker/grill unit is large capacity and works reasonable well. The fire box seems to be a bit weak in design to withstand heat needed to keep a large meal hot. I have actually burned the firebox out and need to replace it. Overall not a bad unit for a part time or

I have had mine for 17 years, no lie. Bought the grill first and soon graduated to the firebox. Cannot begin to count the number of successful backyard meat & veggie preps: two, sometimes three times a week in the summer. Smoked turkeys around Thanksgiving, hot- or cold-smoked salmon, you name it.
Yes, the interior coal tray is FINALLY beginning to rust through, but after 18 years, in our Northwest climate?!? Yes, it leaks smoke -- but just add a stick of wet alder (or cherry, or apple...): such a sweet smell, and plenty of heat. Would I try commercial cooking with the unit? No, it requires attention -- but who cares? That's part of backyard bbq for me. I will be in the market for another, soon.

I love the overall size of the grill, and the fact that you can use the side box as a mini grill....BUT...
It leaks more smoke then anything else when I try to use it as a smoker,
the gap in the lid is just ridiculous.
Also the charcoal grate in the bottom of the grill, warped so bad when I used it the first time I had to use a hammer to bend it back into shape, not a fan of the grill pan either, it also warped so bad it does not attach correctly now at all.

I wouldn't recommend this as a smoker, but a s a grill it's fantastic.

Good Smoker !

I had an older model given to me, It works AWESOME ! With a short call to Charbroil, I got the guide that was included with this grill and had it going in no time. Pork Loin, Ribs and Chicken on at one time. Turned out Great !
