Product is noisy but the main problem is that the lid does not stay in an upright position while loading - service says it can't be fixed !

We bought this unit to replace a 16-year-old GE washer that had been reliable and functional. This looked like a replica with a few new touches. But it has TWO HUGE ANNOYANCES : 1) Why no buzzer to announce the end of a cycle? And 2) The system of lights and indicators makes it impossible to know whether the machine is in a first or second rinse. Very unimpressed - I wish I could have repaired and kept the old model.

We were not ready to transition to an high efficiency washer. This washer seemed to let us do the laundry the way we were used to doing it. Every drawstring either on sweatpants or a sweatshirt gets wrapped around the center agitator. I have never had this problem before. I would not recommend this washer. Every bra fastened together becomes wadded up in a huge bra ball. I have never had this problem either. I have tried layering clothes to prevent this and it helps but does not solve the issues. Once it has started a certain size load and type you can only cancel it which means the tub drains entirely. You cannot just change it.

Doesn't last long
on March 13, 2016

I bought this washer new in October 2013. It quit working in March 2016. Less than 2 1/2 years later and the motor quit. The motor costs more than the entire unit! Way to go GE. You've lost my business for good. A washer should last longer than 29 months.

Gone are the days that the consumer could control the time of operation of the washer. Time is not present on any of the controls. Other than water level and temp. you can only choose the pre-selected types of operation of the washer, ie., WHITES: Light, Normal, Heavy, COLORS: Light, Normal, Heavy, and the time of operation will be determined as what GE or the U.S Dept. of Energy has pre-programmed into the selection. Want to wash for six minutes on one load and eight on the next, not possible. Your choice is light, normal or heavy, whatever that means.
Want to soak some whites overnight, not possible because the "PRESOAK" is a complete cycle which results in a spun out clothes, not clothes still soaking in soap and water the next morning.
Construction is flimsy with what used to be heavy guage steel coated with porcelain for the tub replaced by stainless steel sheet metal about the thickness of a tin can. The only good thing is that this washer has not been made since Sept. 2014.

doesn't last

Nice washer at first, but high speed spin tears the unit apart when load is unbalanced. First repairs under warranty; we were told that we had essentially a brand new machine since most of it was replaced. Even that didn't last - it's now a useless tub of water.

Takes forever and fabric softener doent come out

I wish I had kept my old washer. This one takes way longer to finish and liquid fabric softener does not seem to wash out all the way. Leaving several items a blue green. Now I will have to look for a clear softener but know that it still will not be washing out. Not very happy.
