This is an extremely low capacity washer - do not purchase if you have a family.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I purchased this washer after reviewing all the comparably priced washers. I felt that it would be the best fit for me being that it offered both the energy savings features and the ability to fill as desired. At no point did I realize that the self fill would only fill this washer to a little below the half full line.
What this means is; to wash bedding for a king sized bed you will need to do two loads or the wash load will have "dry" spots because the machine can not handle a load of that size. What that means is; your laundry is not clean.
I was told this washer was performing as per the specifications of the engineers, but, unfortunately, it is not performing as advertised. This washer is not for families that have laundry needs.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

SETTINGS SHOULD MAKE SENSE AND BE USER FRIENDLY

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was excited about purchasing this machine when I saw it. I knew GE was a reputable name in the industry and so it seemed from the reviews that it would be a good buy. My neighbor.. an older lady... who has one did tell me that she did not like the water saver feature but I thought that she as well as other negative reviewers just weren't tech savvy, and that they just didn't understand how to use the machine. I find myself as one of those people. The best thing about this machine is its quietness. The features on the machine seem great but people prefer top loaders because of the ability to customize their wash manually. The ability to add water mid cycle if you feel that your wash does not have enough water, and the ability to reset the wash cycle (WITHOUT HAVING TO WAIT 24HRS or DRAIN OUT ALL OF THE DETERGENT# appeals to the average housewife. WHERE IS THE RESET BUTTON PEOPLE!! I want to be high tech like the next guy but I also want to be able to simplify technology according to the circumstance. I believe the ordinary consumer. wants their purchase to be USER FRIENDLY also

Why doesn't the machine allow the filling of more water even when the setting is changed. # The machine has settings for different size loads but it hardly seems like enough water when some of the clothes are still above the allocated amount of water.) WHY CAN'T THE WASH CYCLE BE RESET WITHOUT HAVING TO DRAIN ALL OF THE DETERGENT? WHY MUST THE CYCLE BE ON PAUSE FOR 24HOURS BEFORE IT IS CANCELLED? COULDN'T GE JUST PUT IN A CANCEL AND RESET BUTTON? The stop button does not cancel a wash cycle that might have been set in error or requires more water or more wash time. This is what my kids call 'SUCKISH' and I agree. Purchase at your own risk!!!

Very noisy spin cycles

We like the machine and it's features, but the spin cycle is very loud. We have it in the basement and when it's spinning it sounds like helicopters flying over the house. We had a GE service technican come to check it out but he couldn't find anything wrong. I think the tub is out of balance. Not only does it make a lot of noise during the spin cycle, the whole machine shakes. And yes, it is setting level.

Not enough water

I wish it would fill to the top with water. What's the point of having a big tub if you can't put enough clothes in it. If you want your clothes to wash good you can't put in a lot of clothes in it. That's the main reason a chose this particular washer.

Love it! It never disappoints me-always rebalances the load if I put a blanket or big single object in to wash. After 4 years of a much more expensive, and extremely sensitive washing machine, I decided to go back to a simpler time with the GE washer. It's such a relief to have a reliable washer that does what I want-cleans my clothes without any issues!!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] After having a front loading washer for several years I was not impressed. When it died I decided to go back to the traiditonal top loader. I have been very disappointed in this washer. It goes off balance no matter what is in the tub. I was told by one repairman that the laundry has to be laid in the tub in an exact way. I purchased a larger capacity so that I would be able to wash several pairs of jeans or towels, but was also told I should only do a few at a time. It has been completely rebuilt under warranty and it still doesn't work! GE is replacing the washer but after reading the reviews I would rather just have my money back! So disappointed!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] ON MY SECOND MACHINE IN 5 MONTHS THE 1ST COMPLETELY CAME APART IN THE SPIN CYCLE AN THE WATER LEVEL IN BOTH MACHINES IS NO WHERE WHAT I WAS TOLD IT WAS SUPPOSE TO BE ON SUPER 3 TO MAYBE 4 INCHES IN THE WASHER WITH OR WITHOUT CLOTHING IS JUST NOT EXCEPTABLE ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU HAVING HEAVY SOILED CLOTHING I WORK FOR A LIVING I DONT SIT BEHIND A DESK

This is the worst washing machine I have ever used. 1) Noisy, the tub bangs around so much the noise is incredible, 2) never enough water so clothes don't get clean, 3) poorly constructed, my machine is broke for the second time and I bought it new 7 months ago. Just like the first time, parts fell off! I will never buy another GE appliance. I have learned a hard lesson
