October 16, 1969 will forever be remembered as the day rock 'n' roll was changed forevermore. That's the date Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward entered Regent Sound Studios and recorded their debut self-titled album. And the rest, as they say, is history!
Originally a blues band called Earth, Ozzy, Tony, Geezer, and Bill were forced to change the name of their band when they discovered another band by the same name already existed. They then wrote the song "Black Sabbath," and, inspired by the new direction their music had taken, adopted the title as the name of their new band. Their music was much darker and in stark contrast to the popular music of the late 1960s, which was dominated by flower power, folk music, and hippie culture. And with that, a new breed of rock 'n' roll was born!.
Several songs on the album will be instantly familiar: "Black Sabbath" (obviously), "The Wizard," and "N.I.B." have remained standards amongst Black Sabbath fans. However, most listeneners have never heard the full medley that ends with "N.I.B."; most have only heard the single. It's in the two medleys that the band's blues roots really show, and it gives a certain level of authenticity to the four young men who changed the world in just one day.
Whether you're a long-time fan of the band or are getting tired of listening to their Greatest Hits album over and over again, dive into their eponymous debut. This album should be mandatory listening for anyone claiming to love heavy metal. This is where it all started, and this album it truly legendary.

Ozzy and the bands dark debut. Heavy, driving guitar, great bass, pounding drums, and of coarse ozzy's signature vocals. A great early rock and roll gem from one of the early pioneers of hard rock. A must get for sabbath fans. Highly recommended!

I can't imagine how listeners would have responded when this album was released, but I know it stands the test of time. A must have for anyone interested in the roots of classic rock and metal.

Black Sabbath (Self Titled) debut album on CD. This started it all. If you're a fan of Hard Rock or Heavy Metal you should know the history of this album, and how many bands it has influenced in music. This is beyond 5 stars. I highly recommend.
