Exceeded expectations

I got this phone nearly for free after selling my Galaxy S4, and if that had not been the case I don't think I would have bought it because the info I'd seen on it gave the appearance that this was an iterative update. It was not. As I continue to use it I find small details all over the place that, while subtle, add greatly to the overall user experience of the device. The camera is fantastic, the TouchWiz software has been greatly refined, and the operating system couldn't be smoother. There are a ton of features, however while some of the features on the S4 seemed a little like overkill, almost every single feature on this phone is incredibly useful. There are a lot of great Android phones on the market, but this is the only one I've used that pretty much does everything.
Pros: Bright display, Inexpensive, Durable, Realistic color, Lightweight, software features

I highly recommend this phone, it was so practical and affordable. You have to get this phone. It is also very stylish. Comes in a variety of beautiful colors. Very easy to use but don't take my word for it go get it

Gave the product 5 stars for everything except one thing (see below).
I was hesitant to switch back to this type of phone as compared to my former phone from a company named after a fruit. The battery life is awesome. Takes about 1/2 hour to fully charge which is acceptable. the USB cable only maintains charge when in use, it doesn't really charge the phone unless its off. Size is great, even in a case that protects it. I thought I'd not like going with such a "large" phone compared to my last smaller one but I've quickly gotten used to it. Samsung makes outstanding products (phones, tablets, cameras). Haven't tried the smart-sync yet with my Samsung NX1100 camera. Love how customizable the interface is. Did I say battery life was excellent? I can go 1.5 days on a full charge with normal usage.
I have the 16GB version that leaves about 10GB free space. Get an SD card for your photos and pics and also get a cloud based backup system app to keep space available. Thought I was receiving the 32GB version from the store but not disappointed.
I was in a downpour rainstorm and the phone stayed protected and dry even though my pocket got pretty wet. I also spilled coffee next to the phone when it was on an airplane tray table. It somehow migrated into the speaker in the back and I was getting weird malfunctions for a brief time. I dried it off, powered down and rebooted and then the S5 worked fine. It may be waterproof to so many feet but keep in mind hotter temperature water (or coffee) make invade the device when you might not expect it to.
Also, while it was raining, the screen is so sensitive to the touch I couldn't use the phone while the drops were hitting it.
Screen has great vibrant color and even SD movies look great on it.
Overall, love the feel, the responsiveness of the phone, the excellent battery life, and the company as a whole. If I'd gotten a similar phone from a different manufacturer, I would have eternally regretted not getting this phone. Glad I have it!

Better than expected

I've been waiting to get this phone for a long time and i got it the day it came out and it is amazing. When i got it shipped to my house it was the first time I held it or saw it in person, and i was a little sceptical about how the perferated back. When i picked it up the back feels great and the whole phone all around does too. It looks way better in person then in the mockups. Everything about the software is great and the fingerpirnt scanner works great. If your on the edge but not sure about the design over something like the HTC ONE M8, get it, i would pick the GS5 over the any other phone for sure. Only thing is I've had some problems with the battery draining quickly alot like the nexus 5 does. But it seems to be a problem with 4.4.2 and should change with a software update. Get this phone!

Great changes/additions to the S series

I pre-ordered this phone the first day I could and am very excited. It looks like there was a lot of thought put into this re-do. They streamlined some of the s4 additions and added the 'active' (water/dust proof) feature right at the beginning. The waterproofing and battery life are my big reasons for buying, but the camera features and other improvements should make this well worth the upgrade from my Galaxy S3. I'll be sure to update and add some specifics when I get it. Thanks for continuing to make great smartphones Samsung!

I have owned 4 samsung phones so far. S3, s4, note 3 and now S5. I have liked all of them. I changed the note 3 for the S5 because I gave it a try and even though I loved it I changed it for the S5 because I go exercising and I like to use the arm strap. As soon as I got it I fell in love with it. I like the back cover beter then the other S phones. The water resistent it's a plus. I went and bought the s view samsung case and love how it feels in my pocket as well. Samsung just keeps getting better and better. I will never go with any other phone other then the S line. The kid mode it is the best for me since my 7 yr. Old son always wants to be playing with my phone and the timer for how long he can be on the phone is a great plus. Thank you so much Samsung my family appreciates you;)

I've had the Galaxy S5 since April 21st. Features are amazing! I watch a ton of videos and play a variety of games. That being said each and every expierence is so exciting its hard to put my Galaxy S5 down! I take it with me everywhere! I have also dropped my Galaxy S5 in the toilet and guess what!?!?! WATERPROOF just like it said! Next to me besides my wife is my Galaxy s5 :)
