The Samsung Galaxy S5 is at utmost a beautifully crafted phone, full of awesome features and capabilities that represent the company to its full extent. The phone comes with several versitile features like, fingerprint, turning on when you wave your hand in front of it, emergency SOS, answer calls by waving over screen, good protection against water damage etc. The only bad thing I'd have to say about the phone is the air detection that opens the screen, sometimes it turns on with unintentional movement over the phone, but that's expected. Overall the phone is awesome!
Pros: Inexpensive, Bright display, Built-in speakers, Durable, Lightweight, awesome features
I would recommend this to a friend!

I think this phone is a perfect example of the technology of today, great features, user friendly and fun. My only suggestion is the charging and battery time. I see a world of charging stations, people waiting to use an outlet to charge their phones. Is there anything that can be done about charging and battery time? My old, voice only phone lasted a month without needing a charge. Just sitting without use, this phone needs to be charged every other day or it goes dead. That all said, I still love it.

Excellent smartphone, but...

This is my first "daily driver" smartphone, though I have had experience with others. I love it! It fits well in my hand, even with an Otterbox Commuter on it. The camera is excellent. The sound is better than I was expecting with a small, rear facing speaker. It's not top of the line sound, but it definitely gets the job done.
This phone is IP67 rated. This means it's water resistant up to 1 meter and dust proof. I work in a dusty, dirty environment so it was attractive that the phone itself was already dust proof and I didn't HAVE to rely on a heavier duty case to provide that for me (such as Lifeproof). Though the rear cover concerns me slightly. Originally it took quite a bit of effort to remove it to access the battery, SIM card, and Micro SD card slots. I have only removed the back cover 3 or 4 times and it seems to be getting too easy to do. The simple solution is to just not remove it if I can help it, but hopefully it doesn't become a problem in the future.
While I've had some experience with other smartphones before, they were all iPhones. This is my first Android experience and so far, I love it. This is my third week using the phone. I'm able to tweak where app shortcuts are and I'm constantly learning new things, which makes the experience feel very rewarding.
The size of the screen is great, but for me, it's definitely at the upper limit of what I would want. My hand simply wouldn't be able to support a phone that's much bigger.
Calls sound great on this phone. I haven't had any issues hearing anyone I talk to, unlike on my basic phone before (which still was a great phone btw.)
The fingerprint scanner is a great idea, BUT it can be finicky. I originaly registered my thumb as I hold the phone with one hand as well and my index finger for when the phone is on my desk. I never once had an issue with my index finger, but my thumb constantly gave me problems trying to unlock my phone. So I ended up disabling the feature. I don't use my phone for anything sensitive so increased security, if it's a pain in the butt, isn't worth it.
One cool thing is that you can adjust the vibration intensity. The bad thing is, I have the vibration intensity all the way up and I can barely feel it in my pocket. Add on an Otterbox Commuter case? That reduces the vibration even more. This definitely isn't something that I would get rid of the phone for. Even if I knew of it before I got it, I still would have gotten the phone. It's just a little annoying is all.
As far as the display brightness, I can have the brightness level turned down almost completely and can still see the screen just fine inside. Out in the sun is a different story, but 80% of the time, minimal screen brightness is more than sufficient, which I'm sure helps to maximize battery life.
On battery life, so far I have been able to go approximately two days without charging with what I would call moderate usage. I text quite a bit, have the occasional phone call, and do minimal web surfing. I use mostly wifi when I do web surf. I also only use a small handful of apps so far. But the battery life is definitely acceptable so far.
The battery is also removable. This was definitely a selling point for me. As a result of the battery being removable, there is also a MicroSD card slot for expanded storage. This was another huge selling point for me. While the phone came with 16Gb of storage, I already owned a good 32Gb MicroSD card. As soon as I got the phone, I put in the SD card and instantly increased my storage capability to approx. 48Gb. Not too shabby.
There are other features, such as the S Health app with the heart rate monitor and the Peel Smart Remote that cool and novel. But I don't anticipate using them on a regular basis...or at all really. But they're there if I want to, which is a plus, I guess.
I love the positioning of the volume buttons and the lock button. The lock button is lowered just enough that I'm not mashing the volume buttons as I try to lock my screen. However, the volume buttons are a little high on the phone, but that may be simply because I'm not used to having such a large phone.
Overall, I really like this phone. It's not perfect, as no phone is. It's got its discrepancies, but it certainly makes up for those in every other area. You would do well to consider this phone.

GOOD REPLACEMENT

Had the phone for over 3 weeks, so far pretty good, Battery last 2 days, compared to Droid Mini wasn't even lasting 6 hours.. Just have to get use to to new software
Pros: Bright display, battery
Cons: could be smaller

A great Phone

A very fast phone with many features. It is very easy to use and is able to run games and videos smoothly. It has an excellent quality camera too. And is waterproof so I have no fear of getting my phone a little wet. For it's slim design it's also very durable to. It's dimpled back makes it easy to grip, so it won't slip out of your hands. It has a bright display and has LOUD speakers so I can listen to music without a external speaker. It has a sharp display that never misses one detail.
Pros: Inexpensive, Realistic color, Bright display, Built-in speakers, Durable, Lightweight
