Look, I'm a huge fan of Samsung products. We've been in the family since our first (and only) LCD Samsung Touch of Color Series TV's. So, forgive me if I'm a little biased in my review of the Samsung Galaxy S5, but hey, it's a Samsung thing!
Anyway, our first venture into the smart phones started with the Samsung Galaxy SIII, and were amazed even then at the processor speed, the camera quality, and functions, especially the S Voice feature. That came in quite handy with my old '05 Honda with no blue tooth! The S Voice really made phone calls a breeze.
Then we upgrade to the S5, and man, what an improvement! The lightning fast speed of the processor brings up my built-in apps and my downloaded apps rapidly, and the low light sensitivity of the camera is unbeatable. Now, I will say that the speed at which the camera completes a low-light picture is very slow, if you're doing a picture at dusk or even indoors with static objects, you're good.
When it comes to functionality, the intuitive finger swipes, the Swype integration, really makes a smart phone seem extremely intelligent when word recommendations are turned on. However, if you do a factory reset on the phone you kinda have to start over with those word guesses as it has to learn your word behaviors all over again.
We bought three of these bad boys when my daughter started to drive, so you better believe we pushed for a substantial discount with our carrier as the price point at the time (about a year ago) was a huge bite out of our family budget. Of course nowadays, those price points can be negotiated around your type of coverage for data, so it's not as big of a chuck of money if you play your cards right.
I will say we had to do a warranty repair on my daughter's phone. No, not because she broke the glass or downloaded an ungodly number of apps on her phone until it screamed for mercy, but because there was something wrong with the LCD screen. When the power saver function was turned on or, you had a setting to "hibernate" your screen after a given time, the LCD would act like the screen was possessed. Remember the movie, "The Poltergeist?" Yeah, that wierd analog screen "snow" affect when you're not quite tuned in to the right station. It would even happen when the battery power was down below 15%. But within a few short weeks, that was fixed and we're back in business.
So, in summary; great phone, great Samsung customer service, and looking forward to upgrading to the Galaxy S7!
Pros: Bright display, Realistic color, Lightweight
Cons: low light camera speed

Get lots of memory

The phone comes pre-installed with like 4Gb of useless apps that you can't uninstall. If you don't get at least 32gb of memory you can't do much..is take pictures, store music, add additional apps I want to use, etc. To bad the sodtwars is overly combersone because the hardware is nice. Wish Samsung would realize I bought the phone, so I should be able to remove the bloatware.
Cons: too much bloatware too little memory
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Just got this used version for compatibility with the Gear S Watch. So far everything works well. Back cover is very light plastic, hope it holds up. Would like a more durable material
Pros: Bright display, Lightweight

I was very surprised with this Galaxy 5, from day one. The phone picks and chooses if its going to make a pocket call, open all apps, copy and paste ect, whenever it wants. I have had it back at Best Buy and the Samsung Rep sees me coming towards him no he wishes he could did a hole. In all do respect to him the phone has corrections over and over, set back to default I give up.
When my contract is up in March, maybe a month or two earlier I will be trying the new IPhone 7 and see how it does. I have had 3 other Galaxies and lost confidence in Samsung phones.
Home theatre is another story, AWESOME is all I can say!!
Cons: Did not meet expectations
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
