Just tried this out on some very dirty carpets and it works great! It was super easy to put together and use. Even the attachments were easy to get going.
The first thing I noticed was how well my carpets smelled and then how clean they look. The water in the bucket was pretty black and gross, so I guess they were in need of a cleaning. We have 1 dog, who tracks in a lot of dirt.
This was way better than renting the rug doctor as well. Worked better and was easier to use.

LOVE MY NEW STEAM CLEANER

I must admit that I was so excited to receive my new steam cleaner that I rushed home to put it together and started using it immediately. I just glanced over the instructions and soon found out the importance of reading them carefully. I was not using the cleaner correctly and holding the clean surge button down to long. This caused one of the brushes to come loose. I took the machine back to Best Buy and they replaced it for me. So I sat down and read the directions like everyone should. I started with the playroom since it has the worst stains. I'm talking major spills from my toddler and pet stains from our dog. This machine worked like MAGIC! I did go over the stubborn areas a few times but they are no longer an eye sore. I also used the fabric softener trick as instructed on another review and my carpets smell fresh and look brand new. This product is a must have for owners with small children and pets.

What's great about it: Very affordable and works great

What's not so great: When the operator doesn't read the instructions

I would recommend this to a friend!

would not buy again

This actually did a pretty good job of rug shampooing. The hotter the water the better the cleaning so before putting the hot water(and detergent) in the machine put the hot water in a microwavable container and nuke it to get it hotter. Don't go crazy on this, about 180* should do it. The problem that I experienced was the motor overheating and burning itself out. I did not misuse this so a higher quality motor would definitely take care of the problem. That or this motor was somewhat defective to begin with.

What's great about it: seperate tanks, clean surge

What's not so great: motor needs to be more "heavy duty"

No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Great carpet cleaner

This is a great unit and I would recommend it to friends and family. It is comes complete with everything you need for normal household use. We have a small dog and it worked well with pet stains.

Beware of other stores that sell Hoover spinbrush units. Another big box store had their Hoover spinbrush on sale for $20 less and it looked identical to this one however upon closer inspection, the cheaper one did not have the spinbursh upholstery tool. The tool works well.

In doing the research, I was concerned about the comments on difficulty with set up, clean up, and leaks. So I was careful to follow the instructions and everything worked out well.

Using BestBuy.com with the store pick-up option saved about $30 because the online price was less than the store price and no shipping.

This Hoover replaced a 12 yr old Hoover which we bought second hand 8 years ago. I tried to repair it before buying this one but found that the motor/pump assembly was clogged with debris. You can be sure we will vacuum the carpets very well before using this unit (again, following instructions). Considering that this one is of similar construction, I expect a solid 18 years of using it twice per month.

What's great about it: Easy to use, great for normal household stains, ready to use when I need it.

I would recommend this to a friend!

cleans excellent, my rugs smell and look great. The rugs are dry to the touch right away, my last cleaner left them too wet. Very happy with the results

So Easy to Use

I have used this steam vac twice since receiving it on Christmas eve. I love it. It is so easy to use. I don't have pets or kids but am a smoker and wanted something to brighten up the carpets. This steam vac is just the right one. I started out with just hot water to pick up some initial dirt and then went over it a second time about a month later with the shampoo. It is incredible how much brighter the carpet looks and how disgusting the water is! There are some spots on the carpet that it did not pick up, but I am still 100% satisfied with the product. It is extremely easy to empty the tank and operate the vac. I recommend this to anyone!

What's not so great: Did Not Pick Up Spots

Nice Machine

We had a more expensive Hoover model for years that worked great. It has a better design in my opinion, but at almost twice the cost. This one takes more effort to hook up the hose for use on stairs and upholstery, but does a nice job. The bottom canister lid latches in the back making a quick change between modes a longer process. We've had it a month now and so far no problems. A lot of plastic, but it keeps the weight down.

What's great about it: Price and hose/cord/accessories storage

What's not so great: Attaching the hose

I would recommend this to a friend!

Great Product

I listed a couple cons - it's not perfect. The water supply is quickly used up, and it doesn't heat up the water... but for the price, you expect a couple shortcomings. I put in hot water, so I don't need the vacuum to heat it, and it's quick and easy to prepare more solution, so I don't mind if it runs out quickly. The vacuum itself works well at picking up dirt - I keep my carpets pretty clean, but this has always managed to pick up large amounts of dirt and the water testifies to the fact that it does its job. One of the nicest things about the vacuum is how well the water suction does - the carpets are nearly dry when done, and a couple hours with a fan blowing on them will finish drying them.

What's great about it: separate water compartments, easy to prepare/use/clean, pulls up dirt easily/effectively

What's not so great: limited water supply, does not heat the water itself, struggles if pet-hair is present
