great purchase

This was my first carpet cleaner. I considered a Bissell but decided on the Hoover because of it's price and the reviews I read. I would highly recommend it. It is easy to assemble and use. I would suggest more dry strokes than in the directions to reduce the drying time. I had not had my carpet cleaned in over five years. With two cats the carpet was in need of cleaning. It did a very nice job. The solution and dirty water tanks are a little small which means dumping the dirty water tank and refilling the solution tank often. It is easy to clean.

What's great about it: easy to assemble, easy to use, dual tanks, price, quality, rotating brushes

What's not so great: heavy, small tanks

I would recommend this to a friend!

I LOVE this steam cleaner!!!

We hadn't cleaned the cream colored Berber carpet in our front room (very high traffic area) since moving in 18 months ago so as you can imagine it was pretty gross. I had been researching steam cleaners for several weeks before I decided on this one.
Determining factors in order of importance to me:
1-Brand reliability
2-Price
3-Spin Brush verses rotating brush (in my mind it seems as if the spin brush would work better on berber that a rotating brush and I was not disappointed)
The very evening we brought it home we assembled it and cleaned the front room. The water was black and the carpet is actually cream colored again. I love the fact that there are separate resovoirs for the clean and dirty water and that they are so easy to change!
I haven't had any stains reappear and we cleaned the carpet about 2 months ago. It still looks as good as new.
I have cleaned several other rooms as well but none were nearly as gross as the front room so the results were the most dramatic in that one.
My tips for a great cleaning experience are:
-vacuum thoroughly before cleaning
-Make sure you use the recommended amount of cleaning solution
-Go slowly. I found myself rushing toward the end and you need to give the machine a little time to clean most effectively.
-Use one wet stroke and at least 3 dry ones to significantly reduce dry time.
I haven't used the the stair/upholstery attachment yet.
I love being able to clean my carpet whenever I want for about the same price as having a stranger clean it once!!!

What's great about it: Easy to use, works wonders, sucks all the water back up so dry time is literally only 1-2 hours!

What's not so great: Its tricky to get all the water out of the lid on the dirty water resovoir before storing.

I would recommend this to a friend!

Good Machine

I returned a Hoover SteamVac All Terrain after the motor froze the second time I used it. I did more research and found that this model is loved by most people who use it. I like the cleaning solution measuring cup being built in to clean water tank. It is easy to mix the solution. It is also nice to have a separate dirty water tank. I have just finished cleaning carpet with the machine and it worked pretty well. A lot of dirt and hair were removed that were left behind by my Dyson! It would be nice if the carpets were a little dryer when I was finished, but it's not that big of a deal. Overall, it appears that this is a good machine that should continue to work. Oh, there are no belts to break!

What's great about it: Separate clean and dirty water tanks, no belts to break, cleans well.

What's not so great: No automatic mixing of the solution.

I would recommend this to a friend!

IN LOVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OK!! I bought this today because fiancee and I planned on cleaning carpets for Labor Day weekend! Yeah I know how fun.... Anyhoo, we live in 3 bedroom townhome with the standard light beige carpeting with a pekingnese and toy poodle that decide from time to time they are too lazy too use the bathroom outdoors.
Well, after a week of research on every website out there. I decided on this HOLY GRAIL of INVENTIONS!!! I am not exaggerating!! I can't believe I waited so long to purchase a home cleaner while owning pets!! I am incredibly impressed with this. Assembly was easy as all get out. just read the instructions!! Now because of my research this is what I have found works perfectly for me!! Everyone may not agree but I am so in love iwth these results!!
1) Use boiling water!!!! Easy way--use electric kettle and have it at the ready while you are cleaning that way there is no waiting for water to boil in a big pot on stove. Major time saver.
2) I used a mixture of fragrance free deep cleaning hoover solution, natures miracle, and oxy clean in the measure cup and added a little more of each about eight ounces total. A little more than the recommended amount
3)Have mp3 player around neck and ready with your favorite playlist
4)I did three wet passes with solution and 10 dry passes. Yes i know crazy but so worth it.
5) the dumping of the water was no big deal i loved seeing the dirt!!
6) afer you are done with whatever area, make sure you are barefoot and go over with drying passes over entire area again, obviously you can go a little faster this time because with the heated air it helps dry faster.
7) take break, eat, drink, do cartwheels because carpet is so clean for about 10 minutes
8) Now for the piece de resistance.. however you say it... It's time for the rinse cycle. Hot clean water this time, with a small capful of your favorite DOWNY fabric softener!!!!! Do one wet pass and about 5 dry ones.
OMG!! talk about soft and you can choose the scent!!!! right now my house smellls lightly of lavender and vanilla!!!!
Done with my fabulousness.. off to lay on carpet for bed!!:)

What's great about it: suction is AWESOME carpets dry in an hour!!!

What's not so great: hand tool rotating brush a little cumbersome to use

I would recommend this to a friend!

Great Product

This is a second unit from Hoover that we've owned and couldn't be happier with it.
We have a dog and don't like the dog hair in the carpet, this unit really helps get that out along with the doggie smells and dirt.
We use this once a month on our carpets and they couldn't be cleaner, visitors always comment that they never would have guessed that we had a dog in the house.
The only thing I don't like is how the upholstery hose attaches, it's not bad but it could have been made a lot simpler.
I would definately recommend this unit to anyone wanting clean carpet or anyone that suffers from allergies.

What's great about it: Deep cleans quickly, great for pet hair

What's not so great: Attachments are cumbersom to hook up

I would recommend this to a friend!

Worth Every Penny

First, you MUST read the instructions. If it isn't working right, then you are doing something wrong. There is a 24 hour hotline provided that can really help. Once you get the cleaner going, watch out! We used this on our white carpets with stains provided by a 1 year old. The first quick pass was amazing; pulling out most of the soiled areas. The carpet looked almost new when we were finished and the water we poured out was super gross despite the fact that we vacuum 3 times a week. The other bonus was that the carpet wasn't overly wet and dried in less than two hours. Next time I'll know to pre-treat problem areas 5 minutes ahead, but overall I would recommend this product.

What's great about it: Does a Great Job of cleaning carpet

What's not so great: Not user friendly in the begining.

Pleasantly surprised

This carpet cleaner is great. It is relatively lightweight, not too noisy and cleans very well. I bought the Hoover over a Bissel product because other reveiwers felt it was better at extracting water from the cleaned carpet. Boy were they right. Just three passes over the wet carpet left it virtually dry.
I use distilled water, heated in the microwave, because our city water is very hard and leaves particulate crud anywhere it is allowed to evaporate. I don't bother with the clelaning solution, just spot clean with Oxy-clean.
My five year old, cream colored carpet looks great.
This cleaner is easy to assemble and use.

Tip: use cold water and enzymatic cleaner on pet stains.

What's great about it: effective cleaning

What's not so great: none
