This cleaner is great.

My wife says it's the best household carpet cleaner she has ever used that is non-commercial.

Her only 2 minor complaints are that its relatively heavy if carrying up/down stairs when full, and hand tool setup is a bit tedious.

As a straight-up carpet cleaner, she is 100% satisfied.

She even finds that it does an excellent job on the kitchen floor and other hard surface floors in the house without any additional attachments. Everything we read about the hard floor attachment says don't waist the money and just use the machine as-is on hard floors. - she agrees. Just use the right liquid cleaner for the right floor type and away you go! The built in brushes scrub the floor and the dirty water is sucked away.

A couple of additional comments: we don't believe this unit actually heats the water as you put hot water in the tank. We believe calling this unit a "steam cleaner" is a bit of a liberal use of the word "steam". Lastly the "heated drying" feature is essentially the motor's exhaust directed at the carpet to aid in drying. We believe it definitely does work, but is the result of smart engineering that directs motor airflow towards the carpet, vs. any special feature designed specifically to dry the carpet.

Bottom line is the cleaner works great and was worth the $99 we paid from Best Buy.

What's great about it: Machine was easy to use and does a fantastic job at a great price.

What's not so great: Attachment tool set-up is tedious. We will continue to use a different compact unit for upholstery, car, and spills.

We have a three year old and a four year old. That means our carpet had seen just about everything. Instead of renting a machine and doing the carpets in 24 hours, we purchased this with a gift card. We could not be happier with the results of the cleaner. Our carpets looked beautiful after using the machine. The power of the machine and the scrubbing lifted just about everything from the carpet. If you are looking for a great steam cleaner, this is the way to go. This purchase definitely gets the thumbs up. I'm a believer and a Hoover approver : )

What's great about it: Great cleaning capability, easy to use, and excellent quality

What's not so great: Just wish the water tank was larger

Had a mad cat that rewarded us with a huge puddle just after carpets were cleaned. Decided to purchase cleaner. Worked very well..better job than original cleaning. Pretty easy to use also.

Great bargin for the price.

Finally broke down and bought a carpet cleaner after I got stood up by a carpet cleaning company. Great investment and wasn't hard to use once I decided to use it ;-).

What's great about it: It cleaned my carpet that has been soiled by my infant son.

What's not so great: Too early to say.

Great product

This carpet cleaner is great. I was not expecting it to work so well, but it cleaned as well as the rentals (better than rental when you compare it to a worn-out rental). The detailed directions for assembly didn't show all of the details, but after I figured it out, I noticed the quick start directions gave better instructions for the hose assembly (missing from the detailed instructions). Some of the reviews I read complained about it being heavy, but I think that is good. The weight helps keep it in good contact with the floor, and makes it feel more durable. The vacuum has plenty of power to extract the water and the carpet dries quickly. The spinning brushes work well, but you can't expect them to remove dark spots - even pros pre-treat stains, and if you do too, this machine will do the rest (I squirt the spot, rub it around with my shoe until it spreads out, then run the machine over it several times). The only problem is that the handle doesn't lock in place, so you can't tilt it forward to get the the brushes deeper in the carpet fibers for tough areas. The on-board tools work great, especially the spinning brush on the attachment. Hooking up the hose isn't the easiest to do and takes a little time, but isn't any more difficult than the rentals.

It can clean hard floors, but I haven't tried this yet because the required attachment isn't included. With the horrible inventory of stores these days, of course I can't find it at a local store, and when I checked the Hoover web store, it was out of stock! This is very anoying! I would expect a store not to have an accessory, but the manufacturer should at least have it! I've been checking for weeks and it is still out of stock!!! I don't understand why they couldn't have included this seven dollar part with the original package!

What's great about it: Cleans great, strong power

What's not so great: Hard floor adaptor isn't included

Good home carpet cleaner

We were tired of renting Rug Doctor units, and wanted a carpet shampooer that we could use a few minutes at a time. This top rated unit lives up to its ratings. It's easy to move around, not all that noisy. It cleans well on our light colored carpet. The clean surge feature is a definite plus for the heavily soiled areas. We are finding that going over the carpet again using just clean water helps it feel soft and have a natural appearance. The carpet is still damp after cleaning, but no more so than Rug Doctor or commercial cleaners. And the extended warranty is only $19. We're glad we bought this model.

What's great about it: Manuverability, cleaning ability, cost

What's not so great: Still takes overnight for the carpet to completely dry

I would recommend this to a friend!

This baby sucks (in a GREAT way!!)

I brought this thing home the other day and finally got around to cleaning the carpets today. My wife and I had two carpet companies come out and give an estimate for new carpet. After looking at the proposals, I came up with a proposal of my own...STEAM CLEANER! Instead of spending over $4k to get new carpet, we took full advantage of the after Thanksgiving specials.

I have used steam cleaners in the past (and more "expensive" ones, too). They don't compare to the features and power of this little blue Patriot! The power surge feature was a nice bonus for those stubborn stains in the carpet and for treating high-traffic areas.

I think this steam cleaning thing may become a regular ritual in our household. With a baby on the way, clean carpet is something that cannot be sacrificed. Do yourself a favor, stop reading these reviews and pick one of these carpet savers up today. You won't regret it!

The only downside to this thing is you can see how much dirt you've been missing with your vacuum cleaner! ...oh, and you have to keep emptying the compartment (HA!). That means it is really getting all of the water out.

While typing this review, the carpet became mostly dry (1 hour later)!!

What's great about it: Cost, tools and features, power surge for tough areas

What's not so great: Doesn't come with a helper to move furniture

I would recommend this to a friend!
