Two problems. 1) the loudest volume setting is too low. When you swim it gets worse. So Sony includes ear buds for swimming. They have a piece of material that prevents water from entering and, unfortunately, sound from exiting. It would be an easy fix for Sony to increase the top end volume when it detects swimming ear buds. 2) It broke in just over 3 months - dead battery is non responsive. The warranty is 90 days so I am out of luck. Save yourself the pain and get something else.
This player is wonderful! I use it when swimming laps and it helps pass the time and keep me motivated. The different sized ear buds help one get the best fit to ensure water stays out and sound quality is clear. Loved this player so much that I purchased another as a gift for my sister. The only problem I had was when the player wouldn't charge. However, after accessing the Sony website I was able to troubleshoot the problem. Highly recommend this product to anyone who wants to listen to music while working out, running or swimming!

Good sound, Easy to use buttons, long battery-life

I noticed right away when I open the box and read little notes, Sony has put extra effort into helping ensure the very best experience for using the mp3-player- headphones in water. There are actually 4 sizes earbuds for use out of water plus 4 sizes earbuds for use in water all included. I bought the player for running and going to the gym. Even though my ear-canal is an unusual size, I found a good-fit using earbuds right out of the box that I could wear comfortly for extended times and stayed in my ears as I move my head all over. The sound is good, leaning to less bass, but very understandable for a small, light-weight device. There are audio-cues for nearly every button you press. So for instance, I had the player on my ears. I felt the buttons and thought I pressed "volume up". A voice prompt said " shuffle". So, I knew I was one button too far forward. There are also little "nibs" on some buttons to distinguish them from the others. For running and gym, the volume range is very good- from be quiet to really loud. There is a auto volume limit also you can enable or disable. The battery-life indicator indicates four different levels which is really convenient for guessing how much battery-time I still have before recharge. I just look at at myself in the mirror to see the battery-life indicator on the device. It just takes a little bit of knowledge of how to transfer files on a computer, and you can easily set up the music inside the player: moving music from folder to folder, deleting songs, adding songs. The device can play songs in several different orders: in order by folder, shuffle between all folders, playlists, or "you pick" after hearing a few seconds of each song. You can jump forward and backward by song, folder, or playlist. I am very happy I chose this Sony NWZ-W273, 4Gb player.
Sony has always made superb products. It´s current walkman is a creation of pure genius. The sound quality is excellent it is waterproof and sturdy, and it's not huge and cumbersome like most headphones. This tool will certainly brighten up your day by adding high quality music of your choosing with its ample storage space. This Sony Walkman is a refined gem!.

Hi Psydoc, good to hear that this Sony Walkman met your expectations. Thanks for choosing Sony! Enjoy! Regards,
I love the fact that you can wear these in the pool. I love walking on the beach without getting tangled up in the ear chords that are hanging. I use these every time I cut the grass and they stay on snug.
I'm torn between good and average. I would give the cordless feature a 5, but the fit is awkward especially as a glasses wearer. Sound is good; battery life good; buttons are fine once you remember which is which. Again, fit pulls the rating down for me - I just can't adjust it so they feel comfortable both buds and the neck band. Half the time I end up with them not-really-hooked-over-my-ears, but it works. Also as the buds are outside your ear, a headband (a must in the winter or wind) creates a lot of pressure against my ears, glasses, and the player's neck band.
