A TV with Two Sides to it.
on April 6, 2014

This is a TV with two stories: You have the TV itself with regards the picture and sound, and then there is this "Smart" part with the apps and links to other services such as movies.
It is unquestioningly a good TV.
It is also unquestionably one of the hardest things I have ever set up and I am still working on it. Talk about complexity. Talk about non-intuitive software design.
Yes it can connect to the Internet but not in any way that could be considered useful when it comes to surfing. And typing one's password each time via a click-at-a-time remote is enough to make you scream.
I'd recommend this TV but warn anyone that the Smart part is far from what its name implies.
Pros: Built-in speakers, Bright display, Inexpensive, Realistic color
Cons: Did not meet expectations, terrible software design, time consuming & difficult to set up

UN40EH5300F, 40" LED TV

This is my second Samsung 40" TV since 2009. Both are 40" LEDs. This one replaced a non-smart LED, but my first one had more ports and hardware options. However, now that I have the Smart TV functions, I do not miss the extra hardware options. I love the Amazon Application since I have a Prime membership and now I am catching up on episodes that I love of Star Trek. The TV is sharp, great picture, good sound and the menu system is almost the same as before. There are a couple of things I would like to see in upgrades.
1. Clock function, transparency to have an option to see while watching TV.
2. PIP on the remote, and more source options for the PIP, as many as the sources.
3. Sleep options on the remote.
4. Better or any Mobile application for IOS and Android WITH keyboard built into the app. That would make the Smart Apps more enjoyable for the user. This is missing and is a BIG THING!!
However, Great
Pros: Built-in speakers, Bright display, Inexpensive
Cons: limited remote functions
I would recommend this to a friend!

Unreliable Performance
on April 18, 2014

Since I bought my Samsung TV, back in November, there have been consistent issues. First, there were brightness issues. The tv would suddenly get darker and then brighter again. This happened countless times. I adjusted the brightness settings about three weeks ago, and have not experienced that particular issue since. Secondly, I often have trouble either starting the Netflix Ap or getting episodes to play once logged in. I get the below error message, I kid not, at least six times a week. In fact, I've gotten that very error twice today alone!
"There is some problem in Starting Netlix (Err: Server is not started). Please ReInstall Netflix."
I have "ReInstalled" Netflix dozens of times in the past five months. This keeps happening. I have not had such trouble with Netflix on any other devices.
Each time I sit down to watch tv, I wonder "Is it going to work today." I feel like I am gambling. It is very frustrating to not be able to predict whether or not I will be able to use the tv when I want to.
Pros: Inexpensive, Lightweight
Cons: Did not meet expectations, poor performance
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Not So Smart

We bought this TV primarily for the TV and the smart features were an added bonus. Thank goodness. The SmartHub part of this TV has been a constant pain in the rear and doesn't work for more than watching Netflix. Without cable subscriptions, many of the included apps are worthless. If I had HBO, I could use that app, but then why would I need a Smart TV? I'd probably have a DVR and would record what I wanted to watch later. The Web app is awful. It is slow and won't play online video. The Movies & TV feature promises to allow you to watch online programming, but none of it can actually be played. Last night, the service was just gone completely (gray screen) with no explanation. SmartHub and its apps are constantly updating, yet none of the updates have resolved our issues. They tend to make things worse. Bottom line: if you want a TV with a good picture quality, this isn't a bad choice; if you want a smart TV, don't bother.
Pros: Bright display, Inexpensive, Realistic color
Cons: Did not meet expectations, smarttv features don't work
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

no youtube app in this tv

there is no youtube app in smarthub of this tv. only a shortcut to Youtube.com site in the browser is there. It crashes most of the time while playing a video or when there is an advertisement playing in between videos. Sometime it also stops playing the video and audio. Don't know why samsung removed the youtube app from its smart hub for this TV model(UN40EH5300FXZA). As per samsung customer care, they are discussing with Google for having the Youtube app in thier smart hub. One thing i dont understand, if Youtube app is present in so many other models, why it is not present in this particular model(UN40EH5300FXZA). I dont agree with the commercial angle mentioned in some websites as being the reason.
Pros: Inexpensive
Cons: no youtube app
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
