The Leap Pad 2 has more storage space than the Leap Pad 1 plus the extra camera is great! I am a mom of boy/girl twins and a kindergarten teacher. I credit this device for teaching them how to write their letters correctly. The only thing I would recommend is getting the service protection plan wherever you buy it. We have been through several of them, but will do it over and over again! :)

Good for a Five year old

I just bought two LeapPad2 Explorers. One was new and worked great for a birthday gift for a five year old girl. Everything worked. The download is somewhat slow unfortunately.
The second one was bought used for a seven year old. She is already too old for this toy. Plus the screen wasn't nearly as responsive as the new one. You have to hold the stylus in one place for a while before it registers.
I recommend the new one; for younger children but don't expect it to last too long.

Love this but could use some improvement...

We love this product. My daughter is quite young - 18 months - but she loves having her own device like her older siblings. We love just about everything about the LeapPad 2....except the placement of the POWER & VOLUME buttons. It would be so much nicer to have those on the side or back of the device so it's not constantly being turned off by accident (even by me - not just the kids). Free apps would be awesome as well - the device is not cheap and every little thing you put on it adds to the cost. This product is sturdy which we love, also great you sell extra styluses but selling the cord to the stylus would be great as well.

My six year old loves her leap pad 2. She loves being creative with the photos and drawing, also she is learning so much with the games that are fun but also educational. She is learning how to read and this is a great tool to help her and give her confidence.

We have two of these. One for our 4yo and one for the 2yo. They both love their "tablets" :) They think they are playing and I know that we are working on basic skills that will help when school comes along.

I got this product for my daughter 2 years ago. It has been a great investment. She has had a lot of fun with it while learning and being able to play games using some of her favorite characters. We have the rechargeable battery pack with it and it has been a life saver.
My only problem with this product has arrived after having it for 2 years. It doesn't stay on anymore, we're lucky if we can get it to stay on passed the start-up screen (this is with a full charge#. Hoping customer service can help me resolve this issue. Hope it's an issue with the battery pack and not the leappad 2. I will be disappointed if I can't get it resolved, as will my daughter :# She loves her Leappad!

This is a very durable tablet and has been dropped countless times without damage. We have this one and the newer Platinum tablet. However, I would recommend spending that little bit extra for the more updated tablet. The stylus on the LeapPad2 has a hard tip that wreaks havoc on the screen if your child taps the screen too hard. The newer LeapPad Platinum has a soft tip stylus and I have never had screen issues with it.
