Ancient Rome is thriving. After General Maximus leads the Roman legions to victory in their final battle against the Germanic tribes, he longs for nothing more than to return to his wife, son and farm in Spain. But Emperor Marcus Aurelius has other plans. Knowing that Maximus holds the utmost loyalty to him and to Rome—and not trusting his own son and heir apparent, Commodus—the aging emperor asks Maximus to succeed him on the throne.
The depraved Commodus gets wind of this and arranges for Maximus to disappear—permanently. Maximus escapes his assassins but winds up as a slave to Proximo, a trainer of gladiators. The general, who becomes a slave forced to fight to entertain the man who tried to have him murdered, plots revenge.
Positive Elements: Maximus is a man of honor and is incorruptible. He turns down an opportunity for power and riches because it violates the principles for which he stands. He tells the decadent Commodus, “What we do in life echoes into eternity.” He tells a scheming Lucilla, “I never acquired your comfort for lying.” Three gladiators form a bond of friendship and self-sacrifice to help each other. And, in a back-door way of affirming what is good, the evil Commodus gets his comeuppance in the end.

I think the title says it all. The audio quality is good on this release, but anyone that says that the picture quality of this movie is acceptable needs to get their eyes checked.
Put lossless audio on the dvd and you'd have a better edition of the film than what this blu ray offers.
Unbelievably dissapointed.
What's great about it: One of my favorite movies of all time...
What's not so great: Paramount royally screwed up the picture quality on this release. I don't see how they cannot offer a full refund/recall

Great Epic movie,Best I've ever seen.
Unbelievible FX, great Story great acting, full of action
great Cast. Buy this Movie

Hey folks, honestly this Blu- Ray of Gladiator has been a let down. I have been converting all my library to Blu Ray, but this is the first one I will have to say that I will just keep my regular DVD. There are indeed little things missing from the picture like arrows and such. Some scenes look fuzzy where as the regular dvd does not. It looks like they used a cheap editor to "clean up" this movie on blu ray. The video will leave you disgusted that you bought this one. Sometimes I guess it is better to keep what you already have or if you don't have it, get the regular dvd. At least rent or borrrow this blu ray somewhere and see the poor video for yourself before buying this one.
What's great about it: The movie is a classic and looks good on regular DVD.
What's not so great: The Blu-Ray looks like someone smeared jelly on the film.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

If you think my review is incorrect, please google gladiator and bluray, and you'll most likely end up @ avsforums.com, where they have screenshots showing how bad they messed up when converting this movie (Its so bad, theres a new version coming out in the fall of 2010).
From the first battle at the beginning of the movie, arrows/fires disappear randomly, botched action shots, this wasn't something Dreamworks/Universal/whoever took as seriously as it should have.
This movie was so disappointing, I waited years for the blu ray release, and then this piece of junk comes out, and I'm forced to buy another copy next fall, that I can only hope corrects the errors in this release.
What's great about it: Amazing movie
What's not so great: The REALLY ruined the conversion to Blu Ray
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

WHAT CAN I SAY ABOUT A MOVIE THAT I'VE WATCHED MORE THAN 10 TIMES? MAN THIS MOVIES IS RAW, UNADULTERATED, HARDCORE, AWESOME, POWERFUL AND WHAT YOU WANT IN A MOVIE. "GLADITOR" IS JUST THE STANDARD FOR OTHER MOVIES.
