I do a lot of backpacking and I purchased this camera for its lightweight and pocketability. I also own a DSLR and love it, but it is too large and heavy for backpacking. The RX100 takes outstanding photos and makes my life a lot easier. I would recommend this camera to anyone!
I purchased this camera when looking for a new memory card. Saw it on the shelf and asked about it. I really liked the many features, the solid, metal body and how it took photos. It also has a nice, large viewer screen in the back.

Hi, Tim!
We are happy to hear about your positive experience. You made the right decision choosing this camera. Thank you for trusting Sony!
This is my 2nd one of this model - I bought the first when it came out back in 2012 or so - and yet this camera is still superior to most all of the competition. For 90% plus of photographers this is the line (any of the RX100 model) to get. Everyone is always impressed with the pictures AND video that come out of it.

Hello, CraigI!
We’re glad you like the product! Thank you for choosing Sony!
I managed to purchase the first version of this model, and was really surprised by the versatility and quality of pictures the 1 inch sensor manages. It gives complete control of modes as you can easily adjust Manual, Aperture, Shutter and of course the Intelligent Auto and Superior Auto. Also it has a great Tracking Focus feature, and a very useful function ring. Add that to the convenience of size and you have one of the best travel cameras out there. Only lacking in this model are the wifi function which would enable transfer to Imaging Edge app, a hot shoe for expanding functions via accessories, and the optical viewfinder, but you can get those from the Mark II onwards.
very good image quality and solid ISO performance with category leading movie features

My love affair with Sony cameras continues

A while ago I wrote a review on my Alpha A65 - I still love the camera and it takes amazing photos but I travel a lot with my job and it's not always practical to take the A65 with me, so after a lot of research I opted for the RX-100 as my 'short trip' camera. As always, I read a lot of reviews, watched a lot of videos and went to a store to try out the RX-100 and it's nearest competitors before buying.
Yet again, in my opinion, Sony was 'head and shoulders' above the competition.
The RX-100 is a wonderful camera, it goes everywhere with me. The quality of the pictures is incredible and it's low-light capabilities are amazing. The decision to include the Carl Zeiss lens was genius.
I love the dial on the front of the camera for quick access to frequently used functions. I also love the mode dial on the top of the camera - for any regular D-SLT/SLR user, this is a must-have in order to give you the control you want.
The rear display is excellent and I like the ability to be able to tilt the flash and bounce it off of other surfaces.
The other thing that's really handy when you're travelling is that the RX-100 will charge from your USB port - very cool!
I took the photo that I've attached at about 6:30am at Heathrow airport. The light was low, and there was a real contrast between the architecture in the foreground and the windows behind but the RX-100 did a superb job. This is no ordinary 'point and shoot' camera!
Finally, although the recommended RX-100 case was incredibly difficult to get hold of, I think it's great. It's very retro, has an expensive look and feel to it, and most importantly (for me at least) is adds very little to the size of the camera so it's great for travelling.
Hope this helps.
Stuart
What's great about it: Lightweight, portal, great lens, mode dial
What's not so great: Flash can be a little harsh

Consider the Bar Raised!

I am literally rendered speechless by how amazing this camera is! It performs significantly better in many respects than my Canon 40D SLR from a couple of years ago and in a package that fits in my pocket. The image quality is outstanding, the video quality is stunning. I recently brought it to a friends wedding and the video it was taking was on par with the photographers 5D MK II ($4000 setup)...the portraits and low light images were breathtaking! I have been faithful to Canon my whole life and this is my first Sony camera purchase. Based on initial impressions and using it daily for nearly 3 weeks, I can comfortably say that this camera is the kind of thing that puts a company like Sony in the big leagues with companies like Canon and Nikon, and as is currently the case, surpasses comparable products from both companies by a significant margin! You simply can not get better pictures from anything else in a comparable size!
What's great about it: Size, Sensor, Lens, usable 3200 ISO pictures, 1080p 60fps video...EVERYTHING!!
What's not so great: Would like the Apeture to hold on to 1.8 further into the zoom range
I would recommend this to a friend!

Best Small Camera Ever

I have owned this camera for several months now. I got the camera for personal use and for work. Most of my initial shots were of work stuff so I was not immediately impressed. However, once I started using it for personal use the quality of the camera was stunning.
Size Matters - this large sensor is capable of impressive image captures that the normal point & shoot can't compete with.
Recently I was at a family gathering where the other family members had point & shoots and one DSLR. I compared my shots to others taken of the same subject with the other cameras including a Canon Rebel and couldn't believe the difference. This little Sony far out-shined the APS-C sensor of Canon and simply blew away the point & shoots. The detail was phenominal, the contrast and color saturation were incredible.
Sony has hit a home run with this camera. I would recommend it to anyone that is looking for something more than just the ordinary point & shoot.
What's great about it: Impressive Image Quality
What's not so great: Flash Location, Lack of Owner's Manual
