Does a nice job!

I live with 3 resident dogs, 3 resident cats, and often a foster dog and/or cat. To say we have a tough job for the Roomba (who we lovingly named Chester), would be an understatement. We have had the roomba for about a year now and have been so pleased with the job he does! We have him scheduled to run every night in the two main rooms where we spend our time to keep up with the day-in/day-out fur/dust/dirt/etc. It works on a rug and hard wood really nicely and keeps the fur-bunnies from accumulating and taking over! We will run him weekly on the tile floor in the kitchen and entryway--he is REALLY loud on these floors and isn't great at getting everything up, but he does a reasonably good job. We send him to vacuum the carpeted bedrooms/hall once or twice a week as well. He does a nice job on these floors as well in getting the worst of it up off the floor. He needs to be emptied after he does each room which can be a pain at times, but it's understandable given the furry critters he's cleaning up after. The roomba doesn't have the same cleaning power as our normal push vacuum--if he vacuums a room and I go over it with the normal vacuum i still get up a lot of dust/dirt/fur--BUT he has DRASTICALLY reduced the amount we have to vacuum because he runs while we sleep every night. We no longer create a dust bunny army if we go more than 7 days without pulling out our push vacuum :) I wouldn't trade him for the world! I have had to replace the rollers a few times and recently (so after about 10 months of use) the caster/ball broke so I've had to order a new one of those.
Pros: Easy To Empty, Easy To Use, Efficient, Pet Friendly, Powerful/Good Suction, Scheduled Run Times
Cons: Can Get Stuck, Noisy

Please stop cleaning allready

I recently purchased the Roomba 650 to keep the floors neat between regular cleaning. The 650 surprised me at how much dirt my central vacuum was missing, it really does a great job. The noise level is within the expected operation of the unit and it does cover the entire room. I do unfortunately have what I consider a major complaint. I tried the unit on a new carpet as well as an older carpet. The Roomba 650 cleaned both easily and efficiently. The problem occurs when the Roomba 650 is finished cleaning, it does not know when to stop. On my tile floor it worked great it cleaned the floor and returned to its charging base. On my carpet it just kept re-cleaning the room until the battery died. I called tech help and they informed me that there is no software update or work around for this problem. It just cleans and cleans the same area until it dies. This is unacceptable and is a problem the manufacture should address.
Pros: Cleans Effectively, Cleans Under Furniture, Covers Entire Room, Deep Cleaning Ability, Large Debris Bin, Pet Friendly

A Huge Help
on November 2, 2013

I'm having to unlearn all my bachelor cleaning habits. Or perhaps I should say, "non-habits." I've since learned that my friends were quietly unimpressed with my housekeeping, apparently they just rolled their eyes and held their noses behind my back. When I started dating a lovely lady I soon discovered I needed a full day to clean the house of pet hair and tracked-in dust; the handwriting was on the wall. Why didn't I get this machine earlier? Oh, yeah, the Recession, but that's now past. The lovely lady is the meticulous one, and she is very impressed with my new hired help. With a cheery tone Mr. Roomba on his own initiative starts up every morning and does his thing. Lovely Lady and I are now "barefootin'" and we have bragging rights about owning the first robot ("1Robot"?) in the neighborhood. A while back Mr. Roomba lost his way, though. He found the charging stand well enough but couldn't stay docked (my research - there's even a YouTube video about it - says it's a rare issue, something about connections to or components of the logic board). My carefree floor service changed to once a day manually switching Our Boy on and off, plugging and unplugging him. Customer Service was friendly and efficient (good job Sheniqua, you know who you are), and sent Mr. Roomba's cousin (incidentally carrying the same last name) who took over. RMA instructions were clear and simple. Return shipping cost, even at "slow boat" rates, wasn't cheap, alas. So far, Cousin Roomba is fulfilling his mission without complaint. Both these fellows have noisy drive trains, otherwise for Mr. Roomba it's all thumbs up. His cheery greeting tones make up a little bit for that one problem, but I think engineering needs a new look at this. Bottom line: Mr. Roomba lets me be a guy, enjoy machinery and automation, and still impress Lovely Lady. It's all good.
Pros: Automatic, Easy To Use, Efficient, Good Power Output, Simple Instructions, Superb Customer Service
Cons: Noisy, Return Item Cost, Warranty Return Cost

I bought this yesterday, and am most impressed. While not as thorough as a "manual" cleaning, it is pretty close (I'd say, 90%), and so easy that you can easily clean daily (so really, that 10% that got missed today will likely get cleaned tomorrow). That is the real magic--the ability to clean so frequently more than makes up for any shortcomings. My only complaints are the things that compromise this--things that make daily cleaning not-so-automatic: the roomba works best when it's cleaning only one or maybe two adjoining rooms at a time. This is accomplished by shutting doors to contain it within an area, or using "virtual walls". The latter are a pain because you probably don't want to leave the little "virtual wall" pylons out all the time (not horribly obtrusive, but really just another bit of clutter, not real decor masterpieces), and unless you invest in a number of them, you will have to move them from spot to spot to control each stage of cleaning. Or you do as I do (this is really what's easiest): shut the door, leave roomba in there until it's done, then open the door and move onto the next room. While not impossible, but not really so "set it and forget it" automatic. You can't just turn it on, leave the house, and come home to a clean house at the end of the day. (You really end up cleaning one or two rooms a day this way--still not bad, mind you.) And, still better than cleaning yourself. And effective--I thought I had a clean house, then did one roomba pass in one large room, emptied the dust bin, and, well, wow. Never thought I owned that much dust! I might start a museum. Or insulate my walls with it all.
Pros: Easy To Use, Effective, Efficient, Good Power Output, Simple Instructions
Cons: Really A One-room Cleaner

LOVE IT & MY SPINE DOES TOO

It's like having a K-9 helper. I pick up, Roomba vacuums, and I set items back on floor while Roomba vacuums next room. I put off buying one because I thought it wouldn't clean well (a Samoyed and Golden Retriever). Excellent cleaner--my floors shine and my back isn't cramping. I empty the bin several times during vacuum, just in case. The cost is definitely worth not having vacuuming backache.
Pros: Cleans Corners, Easy To Empty, Easy To Use, Efficient, Powerful/Good Suction, Quiet Vs Vacuum
